Default Help with driverside hatch button/pull/switch/**** removal

My main goal is to recover the metal surround with new carpet, however, I cannot for the life of me get that rubber **** off.

This one:

I finally figured out that the switch underneath just unscrews from the black plastic base, but that doesn't help me any, since it still needs to be disconnected from the pull ****. Images from new switches make it seem as though I just need to unscrew it from that end too, but no luck. All it does is spin both ways. There appears to be a hole on the switch's shaft, like a pin is supposed to go there. I shoved a nail in there, indicating that nothing was in it, and still could not get it off. Any ideas?

Pull the **** all the way up, there is a small hole in the shaft, put a small nail or screwdriver through the hole to hold it in place, then the **** will unscrew.

Sorry I didn't read your question throughly, but still just do what I stated above.

Awesome. Thanks.

Funny thing... ...if you're not logged in, "****" gets asterisks out, as if it were a curse word. How on earth could "****" be offensively vulgar? I guess I should stop jerking my husband's ****. (Its his car) =)
