Steering rack question
I'm looking for a steering rack input shaft seal only. Does anyone know where I can find one. There's a guy on ebay who sells a kit for $70. But I'd do a custom seal before buying the whole kit. I don't need it, as my rack was said to be new by the po.

Greg,
Just read the numbers on the old sealing ring, and buy it from a automobile spare parts store
I kept my old packing set, and I think that is 18 - 30 - 7/8 with double lips - that means inside diameter 18 mm, outside diameter 30 mm and thickness 7/8 mm with double lips - one for dust and one for oil

Thanks. I knew better than to post before pulling the seal. It's good to know it's not just an o-ring. I'll delve into it immediately. FUN!
And thanks for the link. Looks like a winner folks.

Gregg;
Here's a link to a Canadian guy who does customer Porsche repairs and specializes in rebuilds on 924/944 racks. He seems to have a source for some of the more obscure types of parts. A buddy of mine in Ottawa has used him before. If you have trouble finding the seal you need, he may have it or know where to get it.

This was the easiest power steering pump seal repair I've ever known. A testament to good engineering. Five bolts. No sweat. I even called Blaszakprecision, and he reached over without even getting off the phone, and miked a seal. Then I called King bearing and got the crossover number. Then called my local hardware/automotive store, and orderd the seal. It'll be here in the morning. By the way, the part is a CR 7012. The seal appears to be brand new, but it was leaking somehow.
