Pictures of a 94-95 GTS blower motor resistor pack?
Hopefully someone here has a picture?
I'm looking for pictures of the connector side of a 94-95 blower motor resistor pack, to see whether it looks physically compatible with the connector in my '89.
The only picture I've found of it is the one below, showing the back-side which is inside the HVAC blower plenum.
Whilst the screw holes look to be correct, I'm wondering whether the white plastic bit on the left is the connector. Hopefully it isn't, and there are pins on the side facing away from the camera, as I'd like to use one in my '89 (I've already fitted a later control unit with recirculate).
Anyone got one handy who can take a picture of the other side?
Part no. 928 616 101 01

Its worth pointing out - you don't need a resistor pack out of the car to take a photo. Just a shot of it on the side of the evaporator/pollen filter housing would be great. Its hiding under the plastic cover at the base of the windshield, between the wiper motor and the blower motor.
Here's a pic of Rob Edwards' hand showing it on his '93 GTS (because no picture thread would be complete without a shot he took ).
His 93 was the last year of the same resistor pack my '89 has. 94/95 got a different one with a proper "off" speed setting. I'm guessing the location in a 94/95 is similar enough that this pic will help guide people with cameras
Thanks!

Hilton - on a '94/'95 it doesn't live there - it is mounted to the bracket that mounts the wiper motor - more or less where the intensive washer bottle is on earlier cars. The plenum has no hole in it on these models - due to clearance issues with the pollen filter in place.

You can just use the one you have and simply not connect pin 4 - it will then be equivalent (the resistances are the same). There is no magic to the '94/95 version - its relocation was just required by the pollen filter change - not sure why they deleted the speed 0 resistor - perhaps to make it easier to package - reduces it down to only 4 connections required. I do expect that the white part is actually the connector here. I think its clear in the photo that he back side is flush - the only way it isn't is if the pins are through the cardboard - I don't think they are...
Using the one you have with the 0 speed resistor not used is IMO better if it will still be mounted to the plenum - it maintains the thermal cutout that the '94/'95 version doesn't have.

I stopped at 928Intl today over lunch, Mark didn't have any of the 928 616 101 01, just three new (and a big pile of used) 928 616 101 00 resistor packs.
Here's the 00 and the pinout:
For completeness, here's the '93 wiring connector, and the '93 vs. ' 94 wiring diagram:
So I'd guess the easiest thing to do is just pull pin 4 out of the connector and cover it in shrinkwrap so the connector is still available if ever one needed/wanted to revert to the 928 616 101 01-style resistor (?)

My current resistor pack has died - speed only on full when its bypassed, hence the wondering whether I could use the newer (and cheaper) one. I'll just order the direct replacement and pull and tape off that pin.

Here are some pics of mine Hilton. The location is as Alan noted, but the white protruding section is not the connector ... the pins and plug are where you thought/hoped they'd be.
As I now have the plenum cover off, if you want me to take more pics or pull the plug off, just let me know.

OK - well I'm quite surprised! - but thats good.
The remaining issues here then are the connector (is it the same as earlier - with just less pins - looks like it might be), and the mounting method/fit.
Seems there is a pigtail converter plug to socket here that you could perhaps get? Dave is that a part number label on that? I'd expect the car side of that is unchanged from the earlier years (e.g. same loom).
The mounting shown is reversed from previous...
Looks like this shows machine screws from what would be the inside of the plenum with nuts on the outside (Question is - are the captive threaded inserts still there like in the earlier version.)
Unless there is a captive threaded insert or way to fix in the machine screws - then it will be significantly harder to mount this version. A question also if the new version will completely fill the plenum hole - but that probably looks OK.
Still seems its an interesting option - these hurdles may be solvable pretty easily?
Be nice to see this as another option. Hilton - if you go this path do please document what you find - including the electrical conversion needed (pin positions etc)

I was intrigued as to the differences ... so I took it off.
Here are the pics. The 6 pin plug only uses pins 1 to 4.
The extra pins in the unused end white connector have brass fingers that extend into the case and connect to pin 5 (unused) and to pin 2.
The hole on the mounting plate through which the pins protrude is approx 32mm x 38mm.
No part number to be seen.

Thanks heaps Dave for the awesome pictures!
Hmm.. I haven't measured the pics to confirm, but there are multiple issues with the physical fit..
1. the area for one of the mounting screws on the earlier style is on/outside the edge of the plastic on the 94/95 resistor pack.
2. pin spacing/size looks to be different, looking at the offset/spacing of the plastic alignment pin (and the manufacturer is different judging by the markings)
3. extended area with the extra unused pins in the white housing sticks out a long way (may or may not be an issue - depends which was around it could mount).
Given the cost difference is $US32, I'll just buy the correct one for my wiring (928 616 101 00), and then remove pin 4 from the connector housing so I get an "off" position on the fan speed selector.
Hopefully Porsche will continue to produce the 928 616 101 00 for years to come and people won't have to make this mod work in the future
Thanks all!

Yes indeed!
Seems from the extra connector on the side that they had other ideas for this resistor pack - perhaps to use it on another model and use the extra connector somehow
It is interesting that Dave's pictures show some mounting studs that look like they are maybe swaged in (or threaded in?) - while in the unboxed photo they looked to be empty - but perhaps thats the flat heads of the studs??
Likely problem here is that is anyone with this resistor pack probably doesn't have a hole in the plenum to compare it against...

In the third pic you can see the brass head of the stud, with a flat to stop it rotating.
You can see those flush heads of the studs in Hiltons pic.
