Default Need brake help from the masters

What is the difference between an 84-86.5 master cylinder and an 86.5-91 master? They look the same, yet have different price points.

Im pretty sure my master cylinder decided to part ways with me and the car on the way into work today. It will work, but has that slow sink to the floor

Thanks for any info
Sean

The braking systems are very different going to 86.5 as those are multi-piston calipers and the older cars used single-piston "fist" calipers. Also, the older cars used an cris-cross pattern on each master half while the later cars split it front/back. You can't successfully re-use the master between the systems.

The 78-83 have the cross split system. The 84-86 masters have the same layout as the later 86.5-95 master cylinders, but with smaller internal pistons.
