Default Gear light replacement

I have an 88 s4, and some of the dash gear lights in the speedo are not working. I have the dash apart, and those things are tiny and hard to get to. Has anyone fixed these, can LEDs be used. I am pretty handy with a sobering iron, and have disordered and replaced things before.

Just wondering what my options are. Part of me can live without the lights, but being a 928 owner, my OCD is getting the best of me...

New bulbs can be soldered in (don't know if LED is an option) Before undertaking that task, I would put power to each bulb to make sure that's the problem. I had my bulbs replaced and they still didn't light up. It turned out to be the electrical switch at the tranny.

LED's may be too bright for this application, and the bulbs are easy to find. RadioShack has them, see my post #6 in this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...32-lights.html These are exact replacements (they also have a 25ma version). There is other good info in the thread.

Thanks Guys. I should go to radio shack before the go under. Looks very doable, and my P and D lamps are gonzo. was hoping for a non incandescent solution so I would never have to do this again....

Replaced the bulb today, it was relatively easy. My park and drive lights were out, and all the others are good. It will take me a while before I reinstall the cluster. I am going to trace the circuits outside of the cluster as well. thanks for the hep again. Also the good news, is no left over parts when I put it all back to gather, but the bad news is my resistor holder by the voltmeter broke off, so I have to see if I can solder something back on.
