Temporary paint retouching
The paint on my car (silver...Silver Metallic I think is the exact name? Maybe?) looks pretty decent for being almost 30 years old, with one exception: The rear plastic piece. I at first thought it was simply faded, but it really appears that there's just no paint left on some of it. I will definitely get it repainted, but since it might not happen soon, I was wondering about products such as the Dupli-Color Exact Match sprays....anyone used those with success? I'd rather it looked like the paint came off than that I took a can of Rust-Oleum and did it in my backyard, but if it can be made to look decent, it's probably not a bad idea. However, I don't see Porsche colors listed. Plenty of silvers: Toyota, GM, several others. Not sure how to figure out which is closest, or if any are 'close enough'.

Before doing that, I would take it a reputable body shop and get an estimate to repaint just the bumper cover with it still on. Obviously removing the light covers and bumperettes, etc.. Taping off the rubber bead. Might cost a couple hundred bucks or so. Paint needs flex additives so not sure how a rattle can paint job would look, match or hold out. Until a full paint job is necessary, this might be a viable option.

That's a great point. I'd end up doing that immediately anyway, if my attempt didn't work out, may as well do it up front.

Bureau, I see You are a rotary fan?
Don't do the rattle can paint match. I tried with my s13 bumper and it looked okay, but quickly turned ugly. Get an estimate for respray with bumper still installed from a good shop.

I am! I had one of each generation of RX-7, and then an RX-8. I had been sports car-less for a few years and couldn't take it anymore, was thinking about finding another rotary to tinker on, when I encountered this awesome Shark community.
