I just completed a 3K mi trip from Ontario to NYC then via the East Coast to Florida. The little ball on the accelerator that is pushed into the foot pedal broke off completely and it happened where there was no safety lane on I95 in Virginia. The car coasted and I had to lean across the gear shift from the passenger side to tie wrap and gorilla tape the two back together (didn't want someone running over my legs). That contraption got me off to a rest area and after a close exam of system I realized that I could remove the pedal altogether and still drive the car safely. I actually am still driving the car like that until I figure what to replace.

Hint: Always travel with some metric tools, tie wraps and that gorilla tape.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do I just have the ball re-welded to its orig position.

Well - we have all heard the term "lead foot" but ...

you can't weld it, its a pivot coupler. Shouldn't be too expensive, similar to tie rod ends on lawn mowers and go carts.
