Gull wings ???? Hmmmmm...
Hi All
Saw this on the 928org mailing list....
Got me thinking....
http://scissor-doors.com/cart/porsch...utterfly-doors
Gull Wing Doors.......Should I or shouldnt I ????
All opinions welcome ?
And as its a US company does anyone know if they are reputable etc ?
I am interested in the Gull Wings although my 86 has a sunroof, which may or may not affect the structural integrity with Gull wings fitted... ?
All the best Brett

When I look at the list of cars, all I see are Honda Civic, Dodge Neon, Pontiac Sunfire.....I say don't do it unless you plan to hang out with those guys in the pep boys parking lot

I think they are ridiculous, even on Lambos. But worse when on a car not originally designed for them. makes me think the owner is trying to morph the car into something else. Not sure what the functional benefit is. But if you like the look, go for it.

Your car, your choice, as long as you're doing it for you and don't care what others think.
It's not worth the cost or deviating from the original to me, but I do like the look of the butterfly doors. I would consider where you park your car though - it could make getting in and out a little difficult in tight spots, or with less height clearance. I'd also check that the struts will hold the doors partially open.

I've seen dozens of cars in person with these kits installed and 99% of them are cob job pieces of ****.
If your 928 is covered in neon lights, stickers for performance mods you don't have, and a stereo that requires three alternators.......these doors are a perfect upgrade.

You can never have a gull wing discussion without it being derailed into a scissor or lambo door discussion. They are two very different styles.
Lambo doors are retarded on anything other than a older Lambo, end of discussion.
I think gull wings are really cool. But, it's a massive project to do properly when all aspects are taken into account. Structural rigidity, fit and finish, door flex and most importantly safety, being able to get out of the car in a roll over and the list goes on. Such a conversion will always be expensive and time consuming to do right.

I should clarify that true gull wing doors are really cool. This kit is not. True gull wings could not be done with a sun roof, this kit should work fine with one. The "kit" is just a hinge.
The hinge is the easiest part of such a project.

Hi
I have emailed the company for more details and fitting instruction (not American but Canadian by the way...apologies for my mistake)
What worries me is not the looks of the Gull wings but the welding... roof (steel) fine....doors (ally)... not sure
All the best Brett
