She's home........ Dear Lord, did I really just buy a RogerBox????
How drunk was I last week?
To catch everyone up, this car is now in my garage:
https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...-for-sale.html
Just want to give a shout out to 944/951 Guy, the car is as he portrayed it.
Also a big thanks to Porken for making the drive over there to lay a second set of eyes on it
I LOVE this color and the lack of rub strips with the black / gray interior.....this is the combination I wanted (well after blue, but how picky can you get?).
Maintenance wise this car is way behind the eight ball, but so far all "routine" stuff I'm prepared to tackle.
Twin Turbo Todd is on his way here to help me check over the transmission since I know squat about RogerBoxes. The shifts feel fine, but coming on later than they should. Probably something with the bowden cable, but I'll wait to have Todd's OK on it.
Obligatory photos......
Lorelei asked me NOT to post the shot of her since this was after waking up at 6AM in Hilton Head (after staying up until 1AM), flying to ATL for a 4 hour layover then our final flight into Green Bay. Whatever, here she is with her new car (or so she thinks....) I guess buying another Porsche so close to our 9 year anniversary she's already decided this is her present.
2nd photo taken today after a much needed bath.

EDIT - few more photos after more clean-up and different wheels:

Welcome to the tank. I think you'll fit in, but please read the sticking thread at the top for new owners. Lots of newbie questions can be answered by reading it. Remember, "Search" is your friend.
Great looking car! Even if it's a Automatic.

Nice - another convert - can't be many 928 stick shift cowboys left.
These wheels really would suit your car.

Interestingly enough, the "parts problem" with getting pieces for the 5 speed vehicles is going to be their demise....unless someone steps up and starts making bearings and the other "soft" pieces required to keep these transmissions on the road. (Huge investment, tiny market with an abundance of people that want to own a $5,000 dollar Porsche....not spend $10,000 on a transmission repair.....which is going to be the "norm" quite quickly.)
You can't currently beg, borrow, or steal an input shaft (5th gear) bearing for any of the "Borg Warner" style transmissions (1985-1986 one style, 1987-1995 a different version)....a piece that needs to be replaced on a routine basis. I've got a few new ones still in inventory for the transmissions I rebuild, but my supply is not infinite.
With the current pieces that are NLA and the tiny supply of "hard parts" at Porsche, it won't be very many years until the 5 speed cars are just "hanger queens".
Since the automatics were made by Mercedes (the transmission section, at least), there are still supplies of these pieces (Mercedes used a version of this transmission for many different applications). Although the prices of the pieces have virtually doubled (and more....most of the "steel" plates between the clutches were $7.00 a couple of years ago and are now over $60.00 each!) from Mercedes (Porsche is completely discontinuing inventory of these pieces, BTW), at least most everything is still available. There's a couple of small pieces that are completely gone, but not enough to be an issue.
There are several "offshore" sources for basic internal parts for the automatics, and although the quality is certainly not "Mercedes", most all rebuilders use these pieces. While these rebuilt transmission will not last 100,000 miles....they will, at the very least, make it through a 6,000 or even a 12,000 mile warranty period.
30,000-40,000 miles? Probably not.
Regardless, the automatic cars will be driven for many more years than the manual transmission versions, simply because of the pieces available to fix them.
Hacker....congratulations on your purchase!
I still have brand new transmissions, in the boxes, for your car, too!
