Default 1990 928GT

Hey guys

I have a lead on a 928GT that might be for sale. Owner says it's been sitting for over a year. Tires are shot. Wheels and rotors are definitely rusty. What kind of offer would you throw the owner? Burgundy exterior with black/tan interior. Approx 60kmiles.

Are you positive it is a GT and not an S4?

Between $15k & $30k depending on condition - sitting for one year is nothing.

Yes owner confirmed it's a GT. Badge on back is GT. Have yet to confirm via asking for VIN.

I don't think there was ever a "GT" designation on the back of a 928. Basically 90-91 with a 5-spd and in '89 a 5-spd with a certain option code were GT's

Start at $12k and be flexible. It's all about condition. The tires and rotors are wear items, easy fix. Paint, int, engine check out above average prolly worth around $35k with the low miles, if can be confirmed.

I remember back in the early 90's while living in Kansas (moved in 91) I saw a 928 with "GT" on the back of an S4 bodied 928.
My father was currently shopping for a 16V so I was very keen on identifying and looking over any 928 I saw out in the wild.

Funny, back then without internet I had no easy way of looking up what the GT model was.

I agree, but he said over a year. If the rotors are a rusty pile then I suspect it's been sitting longer and / or in a humid environment.

So, to the OP, how long is "over a year". That could be 2 years and it could be a decade.

Unless the timing belt system is somewhat up to date (less than 5-6 years) then I would base my offer on it being a non-runner. That doesn't mean the engine is necessarily bad, but if you cannot safely attempt to start it, you should assume the worst. Or tell the seller to get it fired up.

If you can post the VIN someone will provide the factory options list as well as confirm it's a GT.

Car was sitting in a driveway and that's how I came across it. Tires were completely flat. Chrome on wheels had rust around the edges. Rotors were rusted. Area is prone to fog and mist so I'm sure that didn't help.
