Default ITS DYNO TIME FOR THE 928 Racer

Going to do my annual checkup.

however, this time, im going to, for once and for all , address the KN vs stock filter debate. im the only one that has a sealed airbox that can accurately do the test. (most wiih leaky airboxes, defeat the purpose of the KN by having bad air box leaks that neutralize the restriction at the cost of dirty-er_air.

anyway, got to find out why ive lost some power this year.

checking fuel air and maybe timing. im thinking the new calipers are dragging , which is 10ft lbs per wheel, or 20ft-lbs for both fronts, and that's 20hp vs the 50 the new engine gave me. that could be a good reason!!

anyway, let you know in a few. going to mustang ranch in santa clara at 12.

Good luck Mark.

I hope you have better results then Bill and I got last Friday... Down 100+ rwhp, down on boost, and cylinder 7 not firing consistently. Had to cancel my trip to the Silver State ORR this weekend.

I did the first time we did the bigger motor... didn't do anything. on 320rwhp, it did change the peak hp and broadened it up a bit in the 7hp range.

this time, just checking to see if ive lost anything

Well ..................Drum roll please!!!!

Here is a testimate to the engine builder and Porsche design. WOW, after 6 racing seasons of crushing this engine, yet again, it hasn't lost a beat. in fact, this was its best dyno run ever!!

377rwhp, up from 373rwhp last year and years prior. (I do a dyno now, once a year), and its standard 400ft-lbs of torque.

So, my feeling of power loss, isn't from the dyno, as we did three runs and they were mirror images of each other. not even a HP apart. fuel was good all in the 12. 9 to 12.3 range from top to bottom. (thanks for leaning out the engine with the fuel pressure last season to 40psi idle, to fight those too large 30lb injectors.)

what if those new brake calipers are to blame. I went on the drive to the dyno and came back with the brakes moderately heated. the torque to rotate the tires was 10ftlbs during 1/2 revolution 5, the rest of the rotation. heck that's 10hp, and for two wheels doing the same thing, that's 20hp. certainly that can be a factor. other factors might be the tires , so going to rebuild these mystery owner brake calipers (C2 turbo) and that should retract the pads better.
thoughts on that one???

thanks,

Mark

This engine has done just what we thought it might do..... be as reliable as stock, but a bunch more hp and doesn't break a sweat at redline!

Thanks Todd and Tim!! (and the 928 list). I hope I can put it in a good light at the runoffs!
