I've had three open 356's (A, B & C). I found them reliable, but otherwise all you say is right. Nonetheless, as you know, they're great cars, fully suffused with Porsche DNA. Pitifully slow by today's standards also means you can entertain yourself at 8/10ths on public roads.

My 928 is not a daily driver and I'd trade it in a minute for a reliable driver 356SC cab. If I ever wanted to sell that car, I could then buy my choice of 928's and a few more besides.

All that said, my 356's were all used cars when I sold them. If I'd had storage and resources I'd have kept them all but ...

So yes, if the proper reason came up. At this time I can only imagine household catastrophe to make that happen.

I was at a local car show last week and some guy asked if my 82 was for sale. Of course I said, everything was for sale - for the right price.

I quoted him a price that included every dime I had in the car and he said he was interested.

I think I would have believed he was serious if he had a large wad of 100's in his hand, but it would be tough to sell after so much work has been put into her and the light is definitely visible at the end of the tunnel (maintenance wise)

I actually did the same thing to my 78 Euro that I gray marked from Germany. I said I needed every cent I had in the car and the new owner paid the asking price.

What can you do with people that have more money than sense.

I did sell my '89 S4 in 1997 after 2 years of ownership and a big offer at the time. I regretted selling it, and often browsed through eBay 'just to see what was out there'.

A twin-turbo Supra replaced it, and for all practical purposes, it was a Japanese 928...even my 928 car cover fit it like a glove. Another silly offer took the Supra away, replaced by a twin-turbo RX7. Helluva car...like a go cart on major steroids. Again, another big offer moved it along, and an F355 Berlinetta came to roost in the garage for 5 years. Red/tan and gated shifter, and the lungs of a F1 car. Simply amazing sounds and performance.

The notion of an $8,000 major service every 3 years was the tipping point, and after 5 years, it was sold for what I paid for it.

16 years later and 430 miles away from where I sold the S4, I ran into (unbelievably!) my 928 on the road here in Virginia. It's now back in my garage, and after a year and some 800 hours later, it is as it was the day it left my NY driveway 17 years ago.

This time...to stay.

I run a car lot.... Some cars are for making money on. Some cars are for enjoying for a while and spending money on. And some cars are for spending waaaay too much on and wondering how the heck did I ever get into this. Right now with a transmission I'm repairing and a radiator that has been rebuilt twice I'm wondering which catigory my 928s fits in. But then I remember the feel of runnin down the highway at triple digits and I know I want that feeling again.

Yup.
It's a pattern, I've enjoyed getting to know my current ride and to suss out every little niggle and figure out whether I could fix it, or needed help to tackle it, or it was more part of the DNA. But I never agreed to run ourselves into our mutual or shared graves.
Every time I read about another Honda or 6 cyl Dodge/Ford putting down more power and ticking off better 0-60 times, the luster grows a little more dim. Not, certainly, to say that is the only or even best measure of a car. The this-century build quality, wider power bands and extra gears are also alluring.

It is pretty cool to get more thumbs up driving through the mall parking lot than a new Vette gets. Especially after sweating your *ss off turning wrenches the day before.

Most people have no idea what kind of car it is or how old my 82 really is. I've been told nice Ferrari or is it an old Lamborghini?

Uh, no. Can't you read the huge Porsche on the rump? I wish I had the money laying around that an old Enzo or Lambo would bring!!!

No. I bought my '84 928S as a daily driver and project car... and with the goal of keeping it.

Heck, earlier today I was starting to think about bringing her back to California! (Still at least a year away from that though...)

I didnt think I`d ever sell my blue 82... but I did, to partly fund the purchase of my 87 S4 manual...

A manual 928, is fantastic machine... but so is the auto. I just love 928`s.
