The lift has been a backsaver for sure. Working on the top of the engine or doing the TB project in front, I set the car up at a comfortable height. I have fender covers but do not lean or lay on the fenders, nor put parts or tools on them. There are additional towels and pads over the covers JIC. I do add a small mover's pad on the front apron when working from there, to protect the car from me and me from the car, bt also to catch stuff I might otherwise drop. I also add a plastic dishpan on top of the intake, with a towel underneath of course, as a catch-all bin for tools and parts.

I watched a mechanic drop a thick mover's-pad style blanket over the whole from of Larry M's 928, engine hot, to do a quicky MAF swap. Folks who do this stuff all the time have figured out a lot of tricks to make their jobs faster and easier. I could do the same thing, next time I need to do something back there. But I'm not good enough to support myself on my elbows, do the work blind with the same hands, and get it right. Maybe Sean, Greg or Grant, others will chime in with some more hints.
