Default Best place for a cupholder in the 928

I've been wondering what is the best place in the 928 to mount a cup holder. I see three potential areas:

1. On the passenger side of the center console.
Advantage: Easy to see and reach
Disadvantage: Gets in the way of passenger's legs

2. At the top of the center console (where the climate control sensor is)
Advantage: Easy to see and reach
Disadvantage. If it spills, it can damage lots of electrical stuff

3. Drivers side door, where the coin holder is
Advantage: Totally out of the way, won't interfere with driving
Disadvantage: Harder to see and reach, potential spill when door is slammed

Evencaly I'm going to put one where the coil holder is suppost to go. I'm going to custom make it, so that it's not tilted.

I don't belive you can slam the door quick ehough to spill the drink, if the cup holder is made right.

I keep mine between my legs even when I have another option. Old habits die hard.

Since I use the emergency brake as a makeshift one, it is handy there, and maybe could be moved slightly forward so a can/cup could sit in or on something, and the brake still be utilized.

The truth is however, that I'm left-handed, and what works for me, won't be as handy for 90% of 928 owners.

Missed one...

#4 - drink clamped tightly between the legs.

Advantages: cheap, no permanent modifications, opportunity for lawsuit against purveyor of "extrememly hot" coffee.

Disadvantages: wet crotch, stained leather, unpleasant second degree burns.

(Dammit, Mitch, you sniped me!)

BTDT and learned from the experience. No lawsuit involved.

Jeff F: I'm not sure, if I understand how you hold the cup in place. Can you take a picture and post it?

Nicole,
You could be stoned in certain quarters for twisting and contorting your mouth to spout such purists' heresy.
The nervous crotch hold is my current method, I''m thinking of making room for a Dodge truck pullout expandable -two holders in one- somewhere 'IN' the dash. More heresy...no doubt!

How about on the drivers side center console below the stick. I'm not done, AND it retracts, also easy to reach and out of the way when not in use. Send payment to. Reno

Maybe I'm just talented this way, but I can steer and hold the cup, even on windy roads. Oh, maybe it's because I'm left handed. Shifting and holding the cup right handed would be a different story. So, no need for a holder here. Also my cup also has a lid. But I've only got 998 miles on my car. Maybe I need more cups of coffee to realize, I need a holder.

My '82 has one installed in location #1. It matches the interior color, and folds flat to get out of the passenger's way when not in use. If I have a passenger, then they can act as an advanced, motion-stablized cup holder.

Hiyo Nicole:

I don't know if anything can improve upon pinching a can or cup between the parking brake lever and the door sill riser. Other 928 owners have joked that it works great, but clearly you can't use the brake and hold the cup.

Maybe there can be an alternative to move cup to when brake is required. Remember, I'm left handed (we're kind of a strange bunch), and I deal with a 5-spd, and the brake is more of a regular use item with man. trans.)

Maybe a more mainstream alternative is out there on the poll and with the follow up thoughts. The parking brake works for me.

In the '84, which does not have a built-in holder, I have found that a bag full of O'Reilly books can pin Starbuck's largest cup quite securely against the side of the passenger seat and centre console.
