John that is funny right there!!
I would say this.
If you have done some DE's, have raced in any way, or have been with our group for years driving these back roads around the Texas Hill Country, group 1 is for you.
If you like to drive fast, but not at the limit, and your car is in great shape, then group 2 is for you.
If this is your first time at 3rd Coast, you have deferred maintenance on your car, and just generally don't enjoy pushing your car very hard and would rather soak up some of the scenery at sub-warp speeds, then group 3 is for you.
I have been all over the place with the different driving groups. I chose to lead group 3 last year and this year, mainly because I enjoy having my youngest son as my navigator. And leading group 3 with the slower speeds makes the wife unit happy.
Having said that, leading group one, was my favorite. You can drive as fast as your skills allow, and nobody is in front of you to catch up to. And having a fast car makes it easy to get out of everybody's way and allow them to drive to their skill set.

If anybody in the group ever wants to plan a route, all you have to do, is do it lol.
I don't mind doing this at all, just don't want anyone to think I have a monopoly on it or anything. It needed to be done, so I just picked it up and started doing it.......

After three coats of Griot's Polish (1, 2 & 3), two coats of Griot's Premium Carnauba Paste Wax and a coat of Griot's Paint Sealant, I may have lowered the drag and picked up a mph or two!
OK - maybe not but it looks good!
Be sure to register at the hotel for the Griot's Garage raffle!
Now off to Sean's for an oil change and his 134 point inspection!![bowdown](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bowdown.gif)

If you don't already have it, go to www.waze.com and upload the GPS mapping system to your smart phone. It provides up to date Police sightings, road construction, lane closures, etc from other "wazers". Also, if you spot any of the above, you can chime in to alert others and would be especially beneficial for the lead cars. IIRC, John C, Erik N, etc do not believe in any of this modern technology (smart phones) so I would advise them to travel in the middle of the pack on the spirited runs.

Hey Guys,
the Longhorn PCA chapter in San Antonio has a Hill Country drive planed for the 8th as well.
their planned route is here: http://www.longhornpca.org/events/20...driveroute.pdf
i remember last year we passed a group of 911s headed the opposite way.
clearly a case of great minds thinking alike.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

We want everyone to drive within their comfort zone. The three groups are broken up to "Very Fast," "Fast," and "Pretty Damn Quick." That doesn't mean that we will be reckless or dangerous. We will be observing posted speeding limits in all towns and restricted areas. The middle and caboose assignments are to ensure communication to all the cars in the group. One of the most important aspects of this drive is communication to the car behind you. It is up to every driver to notify the car behind them of approaching hazards. In years past the 928 group literally SUCKED at this communication. Hence the assignments of middle and caboose positions.
The great thing about Texas is we have a lot of back roads that are in great condition and extremely remote. So this drive is intended to be a fun opportunity to drive these great cars the way they were designed to be driven.

so then, for a guy like me, growing up in Daytona, and being either on the autobahn or one racetrack or another for over 30 years, that would place me smack dab in the middle of ...group 4!

so as such, I am officially requesting a spot in the 3rd group so as not to be in anyone's way. Maybe I could be a support vehicle...or maybe the sweeper...no wait ... maybe I could be the chuck wagon! I'll bring an extra spark plug and a candy bar.
