Default Custom Intake for 78 & 79?

Anyone out there have a custom made intake manifold that would replace the spider intake on the early cars. Particularly the 78 and 79. I believe it would be easier to mount a blower or install a race carburator on the early cars if someone out there has developed an intake manifold that would be similar to the chevy or for intakes.

Also, I was wondering if there would be any HP gains from doing this. I know that the Porsche fuel injection is pretty cool but I have always wondered about adding a "normal" style of intake with a new race developed carburator or even a blower that could be mounted on that intake manifold if that would produce more HP than the stock CIS. Remember on those early cars there are no computers that control the fuel system, so it would be easy to install something different.

Just wondering what others think. I dont think that this would be a good idea for the later cars but for the early ones it may be an option.

you can get the euro intake with the larger throttle body and it helps a great deal. probably around 40hp . the throttle body for the euro is more than 50% larger!!! (2.3" at the neck down compared to 3.3")

Yeah, trying to find those euro's are hard and when you do they are expensive. but then again trying to have a intake made would be costly as well.

Its just with Holley, edlebrock, and many others out there why couldnt they produce a few for the the early 928. It would seem to me it wouldnt be any different than the others they make. It would be similar to the pontiac intake. Then you would have so many other options, plus it would be a lower profile so that you could mount a blower with a carb, or mount a fuel injection system on the intake or whatever.

porsche used a varburated manifold to test the early 928 engines. We built a 700 hp chevy a while ago modified a stock race intake to meet our needs. One can be fabricated to meet the needs of a racer or someone trying to reach the next limit....

Once our intake is fully tested on a the 4 valve, we will look at building the same for a 2 valve if the interest is really there....

But first, lets see how the intake on the 4 valve works..

Has anything been posted on this upcoming manifold?

Are there any pictures?

marc@devek,

I can see building the 4v intake first because there is probably a larger market for them, however not sure if your going to get the HP gains that your looking for.

My 16v early motor right now only makes what 210-220 HP. I think with going to a race type carb or like a 600cfm or 650cfm carb I could possibly crank out more HP at a resonable price. and then if I could bolt a blower on it, I could really put out some HP.

Jim, do you only have the Intake or does the throttle body come with it. With only the intake I see very minimal gains if any. I will need the intake, throttle body and underneath section with the large flap valve. Most of you guys with the later 928's dont know what the 78 and 79 intake system looks like. Its very different than the MAF style.

Yes, you definitely need the plennum and throttle body, regardless of a Kjet or LJet system. the older U even on the CIS can mount to the throttle body, as the bolt pattern is the same. Runners wont do much, but they would do something!
