Default Bonneville 2014

This picture is from 1 hour ago.

Myles and Brian are there in Wendover, and took this picture 1 hour ago. A storm cell came through yesterday and put everything under water.

Keep your eye on this site for the latest information:
http://www.scta-bni.org/

This is what they posted this morning:

Salt Report Wed Aug 6th

The Bonneville Salt Flats has experienced a flash cell that came over within the last hour. The storm left additional water on the salt that had been drying out nicely. Therefore the SCTA has decided to delay all activities one full day. Inspection will be held Friday, with the first racing day now scheduled for Sun Aug 10. Please do not use the access road as you will be turned around. Further updates will be posted tomorrow (Thurs) afternoon. We still believe the event will occur based on the current weather forecast.

Should make the salt nice and smooth when it dries out.

We had a few localized strong storms roll through, I hope it makes for an even better surface. Not a cloud in sight today. I'll be out there sunday regardless Carl, I haven't had a good sunburn in a while.

How long does it usually take for the salt to dry enough to make a good run?

Hope it dries up in time. You worked hard to get there, it would be nice to get a chance to run.

That's the question. I've called some of the "Old Salts" to ask them, and they don't seem worried. The race course is 1.5 miles further North this year than where it has been, and even though we may have to drive through salt brine (ugh) to get there, they expect good things.

I do know that the SCTA is holding a meeting at noon today PST, and they will post their decision(s) after that meeting. So we are all watching the website.

Good Luck Carl - be safe and I hope you beat your record by a lot.

That's a heck of a way to run a desert.

Hacker - perfect photo.

This was just posted by the SCTA-BNI:

The SCTA has planned an inspection of the Bonneville Salt Flats for 6pm. Following, there will be a Board meeting at 8pm to discuss options based upon observations and historical understanding of past weather related race conditions. This decision will be made with the greatest consideration of our racers and fans. Thank you.
Myles and Brian are already there with the car and trailer and gear. Ty is flying in from San Diego, Austin is flying in from Wash DC, and I am supposed to get on my plane in Milwaukee at 5:30 AM. Then there's Jason driving down from Colorado Springs to help, and my Uncle Dale driving the service vehicle up from Page, UT. Not to mention the nurses I've hired to take care of Connie while I do stupid things. Getting the car and crew to an event like this is a logistics nightmare, and expensive!

...and this is just one team. Imagine how many people are awaiting on the decision to board a plane or start their drive...
