Our '88 S4 came out of 2 years storage this weekend. She started instantly and ran beautifully as always. Then I turned on the Blaupunkt. It lit up nicely, scanned for stations and found many. But not a sound from any of the speakers. No voice, no static - nothing. There are 3 ports on the rear of the radio plus a ground pin; the usual antenna, a round 7 pin female and a 4 pin male with 2 larger 2 smaller pins in a row connecting to one female plug from the dash. Assuming the latter is the output plug for the speakers, what do I use and how do I test them for output? If I'm off-base on my diagnosis, any suggestion is welcomed. We'd like to keep the original Lexington rather than 'upgrade'. Thanks!

Same thing happened to the one in my wife's 87.
I could not find out why the music stopped while the unit to seemed to be functioning. It could be the amplifier by the side of the passenger seat.
If all else fails buy a modern replacement from SW Stereo - looks totally stock with modern electronics.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

SWStereo has units that not only right for your year, but he adds a AUX out for IPods. I thought that pretty cool.

I just noticed something similar to mine has happened...
I just fixed the cruise control, and was driving and turned on the radio, only to have no sound. the radio appears to be working fine, the amp next to the passenger seat still makes a click when you turn it on, but no sound.

Thanks, 'guys'. I found a used one for $100 but am told I must input a security code to activate. Seller says, he'll provide the VIN from the original 928, then to a Porsche dealer for the security code. Any options to the $90 the dealer wants to provide the code?
