Dropped pan gasket this evening (the old cork gasket all came off in one piece).
I yanked on the level sensor connector and it's just this tube with single wire connection. When I experiment with attaching to the sensor pin at front of pan it just slides on with no resistance, and it feels like it's only held onto the pin by the boot fitting over flange of the sensor pin.
I'm a bit concerned that when it comes to reinstalling the pan and the connector the pin will slide off inside the boot, and I won't know about it till I get spurious level warning!
Is this all there is to the connector or is anything missing? Should I squeeze it a little with pliers to make a tighter fit on the pin, or can I rely on the boot? Is it meant to be a loose fit on the pin?
Thanks for always great advice here.

I also heat the rubber boot so that its pliable and easier to get snugly in place. Easy to break them since they are old and brittle.

I've been busy cleaning up the oil pan. Now it's less cruddy I was trying different connectors on the pin. A bullet connector is a really secure fit, so I may crimp the existing wire into back of bullet connector, and pull boot onto that - the boot is really supple as we dont get such hot weather as you guys!
After cleaning pan I can bring it back into garage now and see if the original connector will "click" on, but the wires to it are fraying slightly and are soldered on, so will probably redo as a bullet connector to avoid future failure.
