Default starter wires help request

1983 928 Auto.

I've been busy for months and stopped work on my shark. I'd taken my starter out for testing and not put it back. I put it in yesterday and I'm scared to hook up the wires. I remember when I pulled it thinking I need to label them but the stupid voice in me said it's really simple...

Anyone have a closeup pic of their starter wires? Or good description.

Couldn't find a good pic in my search.

Thanks!

You're welcome. Make sure the big battery cable is insulated from the bellhousing ; there should be a strip of rubber attached there. In fact , any place you can think of protecting those fat cables , do it!

Got to wire it. Thanks again! It"s been months since I've had any time to play with my shark. Started up almost right away. To hear the rumble of that Porsche engine again- when I didn't even expect it to start- I'm grinning from ear to ear.

I just got a new harness from 928MS and I was wondering what's the appropriate way to connect the small white and yellow wires to the starter. (Old harness is mangled and discolored.) Both wires originate at the same pin on the 14pin connector (yellow wire). Do they both go to the small outer terminal on the starter? Or are they are connected to each of the two small terminals on the starter, and if so, which goes to which? Thanks in advance. Josh

Josh,

There is a wiring diagram for that starter on our website.

Its under the "electrical products" section, near the bottom of the page

Thanks Carl. My starter is original like the one pictured above by the OP. So looking at that picture, the main power wires (harness and battery) go to the top post (as oriented in the picture ). Which wires (harness yellow and harness white) go to the middle and bottom posts?

Please forgive my ignorance, I'm new to working on cars so I'm probably missing something, but which of those wires in the photo is yellow or white? They all look shades of brown. Further, my starter posts (same starter as pictured) are not labeled so I don't know what the 30/50/16 designations on the flow diagram mean, but again I'm new at this so I must be missing something. Apologies

There shouldn't be a white wire, there should be the large gauge red, a black with yellow trace and a yellow. I would assume that the white is an improper replacement for the black/yellow and should go to the middle connection.

Three different gauges. Big one on top, small one in the middle and the one that is left goes on the bottom.

If the blk/ylw wire is supposed to originate from pin #14 on the 14pin connector, as does the yellow wire, then yes, the white would replace the blk/ylw.

If you are referring to the gauge of the posts (?), mine is set up biggest (fattest) post on top, middle size (screw) in the middle, and the smallest (thinnest screw) on the bottom. The white and yellow wires from the new harness are both 14ga.

Just to verify, my starter is the Bosch SR27X and "looks" like the one in the OPs photo.

I feel like I'm in an advanced linguistics class and asking how to spell CAT
