Default Trouble shooting Fuse 23 (hatch release / clock stereo)

I am in the process of trying to track down why fuse 23 (hatch release/stereo/interior lights) keeps blowing.

Checking the WSM this fuse powers Plug F Terminal 4 (F4) (stereo, lights, and clock) and Plug U terminal 1 ( hatch release).

So far I believe I have tracked the problem to Plug U. When I unplug both F and U plugs and insert a fuse into 23 and plug in each plug, it seems to blow the fuse when Plug U is plugged in.

(edited)
Just confirmed, there is a short between terminal U1 on plug U and ground.

WSM indicates this terminal goes to power the inside roof light and rear hatch light. Just found a bunch of "goo" inside rear hatch lid light. May have found problem

I just went through this couple days ago.

Check all the dome/ interior light housings. They're cracked/ broken so the lose wire shorting out and it's fuse #24, not 23. Fuse 23 is the front flap. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...estions-2.html

Thanks Peter. I think you were right. Just edited my post. Bunch of "goo" inside rear hatch lid light. Maybe from moisture??? Anyway, on the 84S it is fuse 23. (Fuse 24 is my left high beam fuse). I have my CE panel on the kitchen table and was tracing all the connections to make sure there was no short on the panel.

I am actually starting to understand those god-awful WSM wiring diagrams. But, as for your diagnosis, you may be spot on. Thanks. Hope to find out within an hour. Need to put the CE panel back in the car.
