Default My hood sound pad rehabilitation DIY (pics inside)

Here she is.

Steps:
- Clean old crap off with adhesive remover. (stuff in photo won't hurt paint)
- prepare surface and make sure its as clean as possible.
- Spray even coats in cross patterns on both surfaces (the stuff I found from 3M was the hottest temperature that I could find and will withstand 200 degrees which is much better than the 160 stuff I found that 3M also made. I ended finding this at Grainger.
- wait 4 minutes and apply both surfaces together within 30 minutes and press fit and let dry... hoping this one won't sag any.

Here are the rest. I think it turned put pretty good.

Looking forward to not seeing that ugly remains of the original sound pad.

Did you cover up the emission info? If so it will be difficult to smog in the future.

I just noticed your 550-6 in your signature. Was it a Beck? I've had 3 of them.

Says the guy with a million and one late 928 emissions hood decals in stock ....

Actually, Bryan, I was going to comment the same thing. Hopefully your smog guy is not picky about such things.

Would be cool (in a pathetic, PRK kind of way) to get someone to make a white vinyl decal that could be blown up to the width of that front hood recess, just to be in compliance....

Yes, very funny. The top pad was actually on the car when I bought it so no, it wasn't me.. hahaha.

There was nothing under the large part of the pad but I imagine there may have been at one point under the top smaller top, which I'm guessing is what you're suggesting.

Mark, I will get one of those stickers from you. I bet I could just stick it on the top portion of the pad itself and it should work.

Rob, I left you a message today. Have a look at my other post regarding TPMS. Any thoughts? looking for some specialty tools if anyone has any.

Here's a few teasers... Car went to Orange County somewhere. Closer to you two now.

It was 176hp on the dyne, so we were guessing around 205.. Yes, the IRS did help with adjustable coil overs as well. It was a cool set up. I rebuilt the motor and did the interior before selling.

Is there a diagram showing where the emissions sticker should go and possibly a measurement of some kind to ensure I hit the right spot? If it is just in the middle of something I can figure it out but haven't had much luck searching for it.

Its the one in the picture above. Mark sent me one.

Thanks,
Bryan

No spec that I know of for decal placement. My GTS decal is original, it's nowhere near centered- ~5-1/4" from the right edge, 3" from the rear edge, and ~10" from the left edge of the hood opening. Would be interesting to see how much variation there is from car to car- I doubt they were affixing stickers with a template.

I used velcro on the small pad section so it can be removed to reveal the emissions sticker.
