I'm going to start a thread so Greg, Ken, Carl and Roger can just toss **** back and forth and maybe everyone will quit screwing up other threads.

Actually this was my thread and nowhere do I see any **** been thrown from my side - only polite constructive comment.

+1

Sometimes when I take my dogs out for a walk we run into someone else walking their dogs. And sometimes those dogs growl and bark or my dogs growl and bark. Being responsible dog owners we keep our respective canines away from each other. And then sometimes, since they are worked up for some reason only known to God, they decide to start in on their kennel mates and we have dogs nipping and snarling at each other at the ends of our own leashes. Now here are 4 or 5 really well behaved and loved dogs going totally berserk and attacking for the sake of attacking...ummm...guess I'd better stop there.

I have decided I don't have time for a vehicle like the 928. Due to family and personal reasons I need to put hobby time (and head time--time spent thinking bout this stuff!) towards work. Moving a few cars along in fact.

Back on topic.....

If you own a OB...you need a new engine harness....while yours may look ok on the outside, I can promise you, it's not....

I know first hand my harnesses are not in good shape, but unfortunately I cannot afford to buy the wonderful harnesses being produced. So like a few others I will have to make my own.

Both 928MS and Sean's harnesses are great and if I could buy one I would. I hope both will sell well and some of the bickering on these new product threads will stop soon.

+928. Maybe in a few years I can afford a new harness as well. Until then I will get to practice my soldering skills by patching wires.

Sean/Roger, great work!

... but I really must demand immediate posting of the before and after dyno charts for this harness from a properly calibrated dyno (I'm ok with fans on the air box, but using ice would be going to far...:-) )

Hey Guys, thought I would post these pics and tell my story. My 81 euro is the reason this product was created, harness #1. The car arrived at Sean's on a flat bed with a fried starter, the third fried starter(thanks for taking them back Roger) rough idle and just general poor performance. The harness was frying starters and resistors getting red hot. Sean called me and told me the bad news. We found an original in Europe for $2600, no dice. Sean said he had wanted to take on this project for years, so the plan was set in motion. He quickly went about acquiring all the necessary wire and connectors. It was no small task. Sean was very meticulous about the material being correct. The connectors, gauge and color of wire had to be correct. The only thing we changed on mine was a larger gauge wire to the alternator for future stereo install(this week). This new harness transformed my car from garage art to a healthy 928. Fires right up, idles perfect, charges correctly and step on the gas and she just goes...

Doc, are you replacing the individual wires one by one, or splicing in new sections to replace just the damaged part of a conductor?

I'm figgerin' that by the time I need to fix one conductor, all the others close by are in similar condition. As soon as I start bragging about how nice and flexible my foe harness insulation seems, I'll be replacing the whole darn thing. Sure as ship.

Right doing one wire is like buying ONE NEW tire ! when they have all gone the same amount of miles Reminds me of one sharktoberfest where an 85/86 when the owner cranked it the starter was running on, the key switch did nothing and then the smoke came pouring out of the front engine harness ! Disconnected the battery before it got worse. The next day a Sunday he installed a good used harness and was on his way but the pucker factor was quite high......

Yep, if you're going to do one - do them all - you'll already be in there. ^

The most important thing for power wire and loom/small wire preservation is their comprehensive protection from all they're exposed to. When I removed mine for 'rehab', I painstakingly applied thermal and elemental protection from connector to connector. First layer was 2 inch wide thick fiberglass 'cloth' purchased in a 100 ft. roll from an aeronautic supply house - this is what they use in their vehicles - high standards here. Every inch of my harness/wire looms were tightly wrapped in a tight overlying fashion. This was the thermal/physical protection layer. Second layer was thick vulcanizing silicon tape in a 100 ft. roll purchased from the same outfit. I bought two rolls and put two layers of this stuff in a tight overlapping wrap. This was the elemental/liquid/grime protection layer. Every inch covered.

Fish73 - At your jump post those nice new red wires abut a very hot hose. How long until the insulation on those wires degrade ? The metal in the wire itself will 'age' prematurely due to heat exposure - become brittle - have a higher resistance to carrying capacity. Protect your wires - each one is vital - some more than others.
