Default Rear view camera?

Hi,
does anyone have experience with a rear-view camera and a TFT screen embedded in the rear-view mirror? Any thoughts or recommendations?

regards

I'm running a RePlay front and rear with a feed from the rear to an 8" color monitor mounted on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It was very distracting for the first 5 or 6 track days, but I'm slowly getting used to it. Still not sure if I'm going to keep it. If you do any night racing, they do a good job of keeping track of approaching faster cars.

Hi

I have precisely what you are asking about...

I NEEDED to fit Limo tint to keep my twin 15 lb Nitrous bottles cool... and that made rear view through the hatch a pain (think...looks like its 11 PM when its actually 11 AM lol)

So I drilled the rear PU ... and fitted a "Dogcam" with a feed to a clip-on LCD screen that clips over the interior mirror...

All the best Brett

Theo,
I have a motorhome, flat towing a 4X4 and my infa red/coloured camera is mounted in front of my rear view mirror, as I have no rear view from this mirror. I have a left and right hand door mounted mirrors

I treat the camera as my rear view mirror and it is extremely good as I have it adjusted to view my 4X4 and the road, especially when I'm repeatably passed by heavy transport vehicles.

In my 928 I have a rear reversing camera mounted just behind the towing aperture, displaying in my 7" pop up screen in my stereo system. Very handy.

I looked at the camera display in the rear view mirror and I was not impressed, as the screen was too small.

Following this with interest.
My wish list for rear camera includes:
1. Ability to supplement rear view mirror or use as "live" rear view camera ( as above )
2. Also record in high quality to SD card for track days and/or "dashcam" type evidence.

hi,
thanks for the replies. So the inegrated rearview mirror/tft is not such a good idea. Since I have a Becker GPS radio (btw: this was also way ahead of its time) which I do not want to part from there will be no TFT display on the radio. That certainly would have been a very good option.
Now, I don't want to add additional displays on the dash, so... I'm pretty stuck. I wondered if a small display could be fitted in the cassette tray in the midd console. But it would take some redesigning and I'd rather not do that. Maybe hide under the lid (at the risk of never using it)?
Anyway, thanks all for your input! Appreciate that.

Hi Theo

Due to Rennlist not allowing direct upload of pics (about time they moved into 21st century)

If you send me an email address , I will email you some pics....

My system works perfectly, live camera with telephoto lens in centre or rear PU and viewing area of clip on screen around 5 inches , has night vision as well...which amazingly can see through thick fog....

All the best Brett

Brett,
Would you mind emailing the pics to me as well? I'm looking for a system too and this sounds like it will fit the bill. Also, let me know and I'll post the pics here for everyone to see.

Hi Theo.

I've been poring over this problem for a good while. Nothing worse that trying to keep track of ppl changing lanes behind you in fast moving traffic. I always thought two tft screens was the answer. One for each side.

Ta Daaaaaa!
