Default Might be a seperate thread on Water Pumps

I finished removing and cleaning the pump this afternoon and noticed a few problems. First off the pump had detectable radial and axial play at the spindle, something I've read is very bad. Second, I had visible scoring on the block where the pump impeller rides against it. The scoring was deep enough to create a ridge around the outer circumference of its radius that you could feel. I've attached a picture that shows the scoring but isn't detailed enough to see the ridge.

I received the new pump from Roger this afternoon, it has the new LASO plastic impeller. Now I understand why this is a superior design, my old pump has a steel impeller and it's obvious why this is such a horrible idea. I was perhaps minutes away from having the old pump bite aluminum and seize, which would have completely destroyed the 32V interference engine on my '85.

It might just be me, but I figure anyone who owns one of these cars should switch to the plastic impeller immediately. I'm not one to tell scary stories out of school, this really happened. I consider myself lucky.

Regards,
Scott.

Stainless steel bolts with a dab of LocTite PST thread sealant.

I suggest to use the carbon steel bolts they should be stronger than the SS versions.

ACE sells the bolts you need and so does Roger he has bolt kits that make this an easier to assemble package when ordering the WP.
and as Mike suggested use the thread sealant

As Stan mentioned, I'm using ACE M6x20 and M6x25 carbon steel bolts. I believe stainless are much more brittle and likely unsuitable but I'm not an engineer (well, actually I *am* an engineer, just not that *kind* of engineer )

I particularly liked "easier to assemble" Not "easy" to assemble mind you, just "easier".
