Question about traveling I 95 through NYC

Tony is spot on. I just looked at an actual map to see where you are going.
Get to Hartford, take 84 to Scranton, 81 south to 77 in VA, then down through North & South Carolina. You have a ton of options through NC & SC.
It adds a few miles, but you completely avoid NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC & Richmond.
You also trade some of the worst scenery in the east for some of the best. 81 through PA, WV, MD & VA is gorgeous. The NJ turnpike...
Not so much.

After experimenting with various routes to the south, this is by far the only way I will now go. It is so worth the extra few miles of heading west to actually be able to relax and enjoy the drive and scenery. Driving anywhere near NYC and the Jersey Turnpike takes years off your life!

Took I95 back home from SC. Then took Garden State Parkway to Tappan Zee bridge. Drive was actaully not bad because I broke it up in 2 days. SC to DC then DC to CT. Drove through DC and Balt. in the very early hours of the AM. Car ran beautifully for the entire 2000 mile trip.
