Default Belly Pans

While combing threads and photos I just realized that my new to me 89 928 is missing both belly pans. How many members run with no belly pans? The PO ran the last 55K without them.

Running without them wont hurt anything, unless of course you run over something as they do offer protection from such.

The car will run a little cooler with them in place as there designed to flow air up into the car.

Many on here run without them, I personally have mine in place.

The only reason I can see that someone might not run them if infact you have them is for possible weight reduction. Although they don't weigh much.

There often lost over the years by mechanics not reinstalling them due to being lazy.

There is NO excuse not to have a front undercover on. There is EVERY reason to have one on.
Do you hold your breath when that little Walmart shopping bag, blowing randomly in the breeze in front of you, is going to find its way under you car ? You should without one for that bag very easily can get caught in you fans or smother your alternator.
Weight reduction - my shoes, shirt, and jeans weigh more. Track guys may do it for weight reduction, but they are tracking on a non public pre-race inspected road surface.

I run without it.
I'm just too lazy to remove and install it every time I lift the car.
And that is often.

I know I'm taking a (small) risk but willing to take the chance.
At least for now!
Will I re-install it? Maybe some day.

But that's me.

Me too, 5 cars. Airflow as it sits and cools is more important to me than when moving.

Do agree with this.

Mon ami, with Rivnuts installed for the wings the pan is on/off in 5 minuit. Yes it is a bit of a hassle, but I have the maximal confident feeling one can possibly have if I ride over road junk. We are low enough, so the 'oh ****' feeling is there when I go over a small movable object, but 100% of the time I see it in my mirror.

Ran a long time without them, but they were always on "my list of to-do's." Finally put them on six or seven years ago and wish that I had done it sooner.

Feels like the car is the way it's supposed to be, and it does offer some protection from small debris.

The condition of the spoiler is sometimes a determinant in fitting the front belly pan.

I hear and see a lot of threads on belly pans. Never even seen one.

Does my 78 need them? Did it ever have them? Can someone load a few pics?

yes, the 78 came with the early style (obviously) belly pan. There are pictures of it in this thread. I am repainting mine today in fact. I never run without it.
