Default Wrong coil wires????

So I thinking found the source of my issues that materialized on the way back from SITM.

Both of my coil wires were not making a good contact at the coil.

The picture shows the new wire I got from Roger on the left and the old on the right. Why is the connector so different? It's like that on both ends, not like my original wires.

I'm going to switch the ends to my old ends and clean up the coil.

No wonder she ran like ****. Funny thing she ran great all the way down.

I'm in the garage and just pulled my originals. Both ends are correct. The one on the left goes to the dizzy, the one on the right is on th coil. Deoxit and check resistance within 10% of 1 ohm is with in spec off top of my head

The full wire sets used to be shipped with two sets of coil wires. The first Behr set I got in 2008 for my 86 was that way.

There is a service bulletin that describes the change of coils and wire ends, sometime during the S4 years.

Also that, or another, service bulletin describes the recognition that the coil wires were shortend after a certain VIN because of tendency to arc.

My new wires had both ends the same, like the ones that go to the cap.

Im putting my old coil wires back on. I was going to switch the ends, but the ends don't want to come of on the new set.

I guess my MAF is ok then. Going out for a test drive shortly.

You might want to check your coils.i believe your 1987 needs the connector on the right unless someone installed late coils.

Yes they do. The wire on right was the old one. I put them back in. The new coil wires are for later cars I guess.

As said above, sets of Beru's used to come with both connectors. I had been saving the odd ones but am now out because it seems that Beru is no longer sending both and I keep sending my extras to those that needed them.

Bummer, it was always nice to have those around.

The coil changed for 1990 MY from memory - I ran into this when I bought new coils for my '89.

Car still runs like ****.

Changing out the MAF, but maybe I destroyed my coils with the wrong wires?

Adam,
Looks like you did get the wrong coil wires - correct set on the way to you Monday.

Supermaf won't help you at all, will make the car run way worse.

Start with the basics and find out if you have spark at all 8 cylinders, if so then worry about fueling.

FWIW, I pulled my passenger coil wire this morning after reading this thread and mine was green.....again. So I deoxited it and the car is much smoother now.

No - It would not have done any harm to the coils.
