My ~60K '88 bolster looks about the same as this ~30K, but the blocks on the lower part of the seat are just a bit more rounded on mine.

Light grey wears quickly? (It certainly shows dirt easily.)

The light colors show wear more then say black. My 87 with 42K doesn't show wear like that, however it's black.

As a former scientist things like this get me postulating...

Mileage is probably only loosely correlated with the wear on the entry-side bolster specifically. A few other parameters that are likely to be at least as important:
- the frequency of entry/exit, i.e. many short trips vs. longer trips
- how the person enters, e.g. lifting themselves over/around the bolster vs sliding down the bolster
- how far forward the seat is and how upright the seat back is, which affects the parameter above
- the weight/width of the driver
- the kind of clothes they routinely wear, e.g. coarseness of fabric, belt, etc.
- if the leather is cleaned (removing abrasive dirt) or conditioned (adding a lubricating or sacrificial layer)
- general leather condition which will affect its wear resistance such as heat, sun exposure, pollution, smoking, ...

 

That is exactly what I was thinking. I would look at that bolster and say 60-80k miles. My 86.5 isn't too much worse than that and my white 88 that burned up had a better bolster and it had 100k on the clock. It is a lovely car but that would make me think twice about paying top dollar.

 

My guess as well. I once looked at a low mileage Taurus SHO that was driven by a big guy. the seat bolster was smashed...

 

Looks like the outer driver side CV-joint boot is cracked and leaked grease. CV boot failure after 33k?
