is there an alternative to the $700 porsche one? I have not found anything. redoing my front and rear AC. Local shop says my condensor and an expansion valve are toast. they said the system was building to much pressure.

Whilst its possible both have issues - I don't think there is really any way to know if the condenser has a problem without removal & test or until until after you assure the expansion valve works. Likely they want to make sure no blockage in the condenser can foul a new expansion valve and changing both ensures less time in the shop for diagnostics and waiting for parts. On most American cars this is probably a good trade off - parts costs are relatively low.
However given the cost of a new Porsche condenser - you'd want them to flush it & flow test it before pronoucing it dead...
If you do need to replace it anyway folks have used aftermarket parallel flow condensers (vs stock serpentine serial) with better cooiling results and a lower cost - check for results under that topic.

Geeze you guys are fast, thanks for the input. Mine is a 1990 s4 automatic, would the GT one work with mine? I will look into the parallel fow ones. I kind of did not want to modify too much like mounts and reeiver drier mounts.

Mine are R134a condensers for the late 93 to 95 cars.
Great price from Mark.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Out of curiosity, does anybody know who manufactured the condenser pictured above?

That condenser is the same I bought for my 90GT project, from Griffith. I think this place also carries them occasionally: http://www.ineedarad.com

The GTS had the cooler sitting on top of the condenser for both auto and manual cars - so yes it works with automatic.

There's a good parallel condenser available new for the 87-91 5-speeds in the USA - cheap too (sub $200 IIRC - I have one I bought a few years ago). Its on ebay, and I believe its made in the USA too.
edit: this is the one I bought for my '89 - only fits 87-91 5-speeds. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-1991-Po...28a82e&vxp=mtr
Its a drop-in replacement and is parallel flow. I see its $250 now.
