Default On the way home from SITM

We stopped in Lexington for dinner and when we came out, Kyle called me over and the front of the garage queen was crumpled. BUT!, get this, the gentleman who had done it was waiting there. He was in a big Dodge diesel and when he tried to leave, the rear wheel caught the front corner. Fender, wheel liner, bumper cover, spoiler, turn signal, side marker.... He immediately told me he had already called the police and it was entirely his fault and he would pay for the repairs. He indicated he thought we were in the restaurant, but didn't want to spoil our meal, so he and his wife just waited for us to come out. 7300 with new parts about 400o using used parts which I will do for him since he's paying for it out of his pocket, but it's not often you meet someone with that integrity. His name is Ron Patterson and he lives in Paris, Ky, so if you ever meet him, shake his hand and tell him you have heard he's a man of honor.

Sharks was great, good to meet old friends and make new ones.

Finished replacing the power steering hose today and will button it up tomorrow.

Let him know he is one of few.

Even though there were probably cameras on the parking lot.

There's hope for humanity after all. Sorry for the damage, hopefully it will work out OK as it gets done.

Taking a long drive tomorrow, all we can do is grit our teeth when the car is parked somewhere along the way.

You certainly were lucky, the idiot in the big white pickup who backed into my front bumper with his trailer hitch just drove off. The cop watching the parking lot didn't see the damage until too late.
Sorry about the damage, that really puts a damper on a great weekend, but he could have easily driven off!

So great to hear about a stand-up man with integrity and with personal consideration.

That had to hurt walking out to see that front-end... Glad it worked out as well as it did.

Buy a lottery ticket.

Glad the incident is going smoothly, that guy is one in a thousand. Most folks would have taken off.

Sorry she was mangled, it is a beautiful car.

Yes, there are people of integrity still around in this world. SO glad one of them was driving the vehicle that damaged your car. Kudos to him for his character.

I had a similar - but much smaller - incident with a car I was driving from AR home about 10 years ago. A young woman in a pickup had backed into the car in Missouri, damaging the rear bumper and breaking a tail light. She too acknowledged the incident, but found me in the restaurant as I was having lunch.

BC is right, there are always cameras outside of restaurants.

I never understood why someone would pay out of pocket when they carry insurance unless they are simply saying it to try and keep their costs down.
Something this minor wouldn't change his rate. Maybe i just don't trust people i don't REALLY know anymore.

I've been hit a lot. Twice (similar sounding) in my other Porsche,
made it just about worthless compared to other Carreras.

That said i'd use NEW PARTS if i where you. When i buy used parts they usually aren't as nice as what i'd want or what came off mine. They are off parts cars
after all.

The value of any car is lowered after being hit. Not that you are selling, but a 928 Collector will move on to one that has not been hit and is original.
It's not like they only made 50 of them.

Sorry your shark was damaged.

Sorry to hear about that situation. I am happy to see that the offender did stay.

Any pics of the damage?

Me too Andy.

I immediately imagined he was out there looking for cameras, trying to get up the nerve to floor it out of there and actually called the law after telling Rod he had already done so.

Then rolling up his window, making the call.

I watched a lot of Columbo late night as a kid and lived in Philly too long i guess.

The "i'm paying out of pocket" thing seems like pointless information to guilt Rod with.

Sorry again Rod,

I'm sure it will be as good as new.

Actually, there were no cameras on the parking lot in this location and he knew it, so he was just being a good guy - police verified it after they came. He was also with his wife of one week. He wants to pay for it himself so the lady who owns the horse farm he manages (lives in California) won't have her insurance go up. I don't think he has any hidden agendas, just an honest guy, trying to do the right thing. It's no small change, even using parts from Mark, it will cost him almost $5,000.00.

In any event, it's reassuring to know that there are still some good people in the world.

Went down to Denver a couple years back to watch my alma mater (Michigan Tech) play Denver University - big rivals in ice hockey. Decided that it was too late to drive back to our home in Wyoming. Decided to take a room in a rather nice hotel with ample private parking. I would imagine I am like most of you guys; I always try to park way out of the way in hopes that no one would park there. The next morning we arrived at our car to find the tail light assy in pieces and nobody parked anywhere nearby. Obviously someone nailed us during the night and just took off. That's the dark side of the story. The bright side is that one of our renlist clan (I won't quote his name without his permission) had a complete assembly in great shape and sold it to me for the cost of shipping from Canada to Wyoming.

So, in this case, there was a bad guy who was balanced off by a real good guy. As some have intimated in this note, you're probably more likely to find the guy who runs off than the guy who sticks around but sometimes you come across a good guy who balances things off.
