Default '92 GTS for sale ~$10k

What do you guys think of this one?

Found it on our local online marketplace, it is a genuine car as a buddy of mine went to check it out, the car is just as dodgy as the advert. But the VIN checks out and it has a GTS engine.

What do you guys think?

What's the mileage? For the asking price of $9500 you can't go wrong. If you are not interested I will take it. .
Interesting to see what is below those seat covers and why the steering leather was redone. How does the engine look?

I would be on that like spaghetti sauce. Getting it in to the US would require a "Show and Display" exemption or parking it in Canada for 3 years (unless you wanted to get creative....).

If it starts up and drives with no really bad noises, I don't see how you can go wrong for the money.

But that begs the question, why so cheap??? It's not like exotic cars are foreign to Dubai.

Are all the "S" in "GTS" hanging down like that?

Nope, so that most likely means that the back bumper was renewed or fixed and then body colour painted followed by the '928 GTS' insignia being put on - in this incorrect way.
Hence a good reason to at least check under the back of this car, for potential damage on the underlying real impact bumper and/or cheap repaint.
Do not get me wrong: on my own car my back bumper has been repaired and repainted (after my own inflicted damage on 01.01.2012), however care was taken that all was put back right - this is not so.

Front chairs are definately not the same colour as backseat nor the same as the shifter leather colour - which more often than not is all coordinated.
Also wonder about - what looks like a cut-off switch - is doing on the left hand side of the drivers chair. That is not a very logical location, given the length of cable required...

My GTS was in much better condition when I bought it, however there was still a whole lot of problems.
It's very common for them out here to re-do the wiring if something fails or if they have an issue which requires some low level of brain power.
The front seats have definitely been re-done, not sure if they even took the old stuff off, they didn't take the old stuff off with Gisherton's car.
Like with most cars out here the mileage is pretty low, almost always under 60k miles.

928s don't sell for a whole lot here, even though a 10K GTS is pretty low, I have seen them sold for less.
There was recently a red one sold for AED15K which is around $4K, the AC compressor blew up during a test drive and the guy took a low ball offer. Pretty upset I missed that one...
It's common for these cars to sell between $10K-$20K for a GTS that's been moderately molested by a South Asian.
However I have also seen a few sell for $40K, which almost seems unreal!

I can always get a PPI done by our local 928 specialist, and help with exporting if anyone is interested.

Phil,

Where does the vin say the car originated from? Looks like US rear bumper guards but no front side reflectors?

So middle east cars have US bumbers but they are ROW cars. So even don't have cat converters because local fuel could still be leaded at the time.

It's a GCC car, they have the front and rear bumperettes but no front side reflectors, it's the same as mine and Gisherton's. Although I'm convinced Gisherton's front bumper is not original since he has the clear euro bits and no evidence of a conversion.

Yeh GCC Spec or "Version for Saudi" on VIN is quite weird.

This means we get the funny black bumperettes, like the Americans.
A speed warning buzzer at 120kph.
Sand separators in the intake tubes
No CAT, but CO Pot and a huge muffler in the middle that allows no engine noise through.
And a barrel of crude oil in the trunk. (just kidding)

I might go and check the car out, there seems to be enough interest in it, I'll post whatever findings I get.
