Bill,

Per the great State Of Michigan, the amount a repair facility can charge you above and beyond the quoted price is 10% of the quote. But, they also must justify it. (Don't ask me how I know this. I think the same shop that wanted my money, Big Dave had another nice experience with them too.)

It was a bit more than 10% but they did justify it - which is why I didn't fight it at the time. But when it became a habit, I decided it was time to go elsewhere!

Sorry Normy - didn't mean to highjack your thread...

My experiences with local wrenches include German Motors and Bloomfield Eurotech. German Motors wanted to replaced my entire steering rack and alternator when I first bought the car. A new power steering hose ($30) and battery and my own efforts fixed everything. Bloomfield Eurotech took 5 days to replace my rear shocks and then couldn't get the car started.

There is even a shop in the area (that shall remain nameless due to its generosity to 928 owners last year) that quoted me seven hours to replace the gaskets on my thermostat housing (which we were able to do in 2.5).

I'd not take the 928 anywhere unless it requires bodywork (and even then I still don't know of a place that does satisfactory work).

Jim:

I believe I'm going to the September 6 game against Houston. Are you tailgating anywhere before the games?

If you want good mech service in Michigan, goto Automotive Werks Ltd
(269) 341-9911 3803 Gembrit Cir Kalamazoo, MI

They guy's name is Buck and he is excellent. Very familiar with the 928, as he was a certified porsche mech during the 80's before the Porsche dealership in Kalamazoo closed. When they closed he bought out all the special porsche tools (smart guy). He also has a Hunter alignment machine.
...and a pretty long waiting list.

Dave,
Oh yea.... we hook up a sweet tailgate over on Seventh St at the church.
...cheap parking and they let us stay as late as we'd like...and we do.

Hey Dave!

I'm here...alive and well and dodging the potholes near Willow Run!

Sorry to have been so quiet. I've had my nose into the books pretty hard, in order to get ahead of the power curve, per se. So far, so good-

I stayed in Ann Arbor [spelled correctly now....] the first few nights: Looks like a lot of fun, I'll probably work my way over there this weekend. I think the Wolverines are playing at home- I'll have to find a way to avoid the traffic I guess.

-The 928 is running fine. I've been riding to the school with a friend, and leaving the car at the hotel to keep the mileage down, but the two days that I've driven it to Connie's parking lot it got plenty of attention. There are a whole bunch of Porsche-files working here, and despite the fact that I'm trying to keep a low profile...I've still been pulled aside by various executives and queried about it.

V8's are kind of popular around Kalitta's shop; that Borla is getting attention....!

Anyway, I'm going to be roaming around this weekend, and I'm looking forward to "Beer Night". Keep me informed- 407.491.5682.

Thanx again!

N!
