I have an 85 auto that has not blown cold for 10 years. Hasn't bothered me to date but now want to investigate what it might take to get the ac in shape.
Compressor is not kicking on at this point does when jumped.
I would like to put some refrigerant in to see if the system then works and holds pressure
Where is the low pressure side connection?
Thanks much

I think if its been that long and you have insufficient refrigerant pressure to trigger the switch you will need to change the dryer and vacuum down the system as a minimum. Likely you will need someone else to do this? It does however allow you to pressure test the system without adding Freon - which is getting to be an expensive way to test for leaks...

The 'normal' leaks are compressor or compressor hoses.
In terms of getting things back to like new:
New barrier hoses at compressor.
Compressor seal kit or new compressor depending upon its condition.
New o-rings on all joints.
Liquid flush other lines, condenser and evap.
Clean out evaporator fins and flush the coil.
Inspect condenser.
New drier, R134a conversion with ester oil.
Inspect the HVAC controls, servo's and actuator functions.
Low side service port is on RH side (pass side) just under the radiator hose, in the low side pipe running along inside body wall or fender wall.
