anybody know where to get this really cool wire protector and wrap that has printing on it? these are pics from taking apart the (IAT) intake air temp wire to sensor to solder and extend it so I can put it finally in the cowl for more realistic air temps….
I don't want to put just the black plastic tubing over the wire , I would like to put this stuff back on so you can see the wire through the mesh covering…. but the wire covering that is mesh like wouldn't upload …….
maybe first pic is way too big?

Andy,
Several places online sell the mesh covering. I get mine from here: http://www.genuinedealz.com/marine-e...aided-sleeving
Don't have a source for those labels though.
Cheers!

Might be a thing for the professional mechanics - they can put a code on their wire work so they can date there work for their records, etc...
I like the meshes in Carl's link. Will add some to my armamentarium. Thanks Carl.

It's used regularly to label wires in industrial applications. You can buy sheets of the labels, flattened, to put through an inkjet printer. Then they get sectioned, and installed with a mini heat gun/torch to shrink them.

The mesh is called techflex or petflex. You can get reasonable quantities from WireCare.com
Dymo Industrial line of labelers called Rhino will print on heatshrink. It is a thermal process, so depending on where the tag is located, it could fade. The least expensive unit that does shrink is the 4200, I have a 6000 and its been a great unit for all sorts of projects.

They make smaller heat shrink labelers and the short collars to label them.

Andy--
You'd do well to send a list of designators to Greg or Hans and talk him into printing them for you. The industrial printers will do strips of labels rather than needing whole sheets, and they use a waterproof ink or thermal print that would be a lot better for automotive stuff. It's been years since I supported that end of the construction biz, and I'm sure the state of the art is way beyond what I knew last.
