Smile Collector Car Insurance

Does anyone on this board have collector car insurance with Haggerty or Grundy's? I'm just curious what the rates would be straight from the horse's mouth and experiences with them when it comes to submitting a claim. Thanks!

Tried to insure Just Peachy, a heavily modified 1980 with Hagerty, Grundy's, Collector Car Ins, etc for $ 75,000 replacement value and was turned away by most. IIRC Hagerty would have insured JP for approx $ 2,200 a year with 4,000 limited miles. Also, a stipulation was that I had to have the car appraised. Don't think it would have gotten appraised for anything near what I wanted to insure her for and the appraisal alone would cost me $ 350. Below is my latest Policy for 6 vehicle's. (I know, one is a golf cart and one is a open car trailer) and JP is restricted to 10,000 miles per year. Ended up paying $ 1,417 per year for all 6 vehicles with 2 adult drivers and bumped up liability coverage. I could not find anyone that was remotely close to this price and coverage. T

I have Grundy - about $270/year for $20k agreed value. Never had a claim. My experience in shopping around was that premium prices did not vary much from carrier to carrier.

Just a quick note: the collector car insurance companies I called require a car for every licensed driver in the home, in addition to the collectible car. We don't qualify because we've only got one family car and the 928 for me and my wife.

Another requirement - the collector car must live in a locked, secure garage.

BTW - I insure with Allstate, and my agent tells me that they offer collector car insurance at competitive rates for their customers.

$384/yr with Grundy, $25k agreed value and no appraisal. They just asked me what I wanted to insure the car for. Each licensed driver in the house must have another car to drive and the 928 must be parked in a locked secure indoor garage. Mileage is not limited, but it can't be used for general transportation, work, errands, etc. Only driving to/from car shows and events, service & repairs is covered. The agent said the occasional joy ride or trip out to dinner would be acceptable.

I also have historic MI plates with the same driving restrictions. The plate was $30 for 10 years vs. $290 every year.

The only claim I've made was for towing coverage when my oil cooler started leaking. They reimbursed me for the $113 tow. Towing coverage max was up to $250.

What about deductibles for repairs? What is the average for these companies? $500? $750??

I'm only paying $140.00 per year, $12,000.00 pay out, but limited to 5k miles a year plus Porsche events additional mileage.
Must be garaged. Thru Haggerty.
You should be able to get this and all other info thru your regular auto ins, carrier.

Good topic and info. I have 2 cars of the 5 that might qualify as collectible to get premium down. I am paying @ $400/ yr each for the 3 cars that we put less than 2000 miles / yr= $1200 vs @ $600 avrg.

As a new 928 owner, I looked into regular insurance and Classic Car for my 86.5 and I learned a lot; more than I wanted to.
B4 I begin, understand that I have 4 drivers and 5 cars, one being a company car.
Now.....
Regular insurance with full coverage was $2100 a year. OUCH! Liability was half of that. Not so much of an ouch but...

Classic car insurance was anywhere from $80 to $350 a year full coverage, but there's a catch or two when applying.

1st: Tell em you're only gonna use it less than 3000 miles. Anything more raises questions. Stick under 2000 miles and you'll be fine.
2nd: Also tell em that you will only use it for club events, shows, etc. Be as specific as you can (IE what clubs you are in, what events you know of you plan to go to). No shopping, commuting, errands, etc. You will get the Big Rejection if you mention any of those things.
3rd: whatever total miles a year you tell them, divide by 52 and tell them that's what your going to drive weekly, at most (If they ask).
4th: when applying, if you have a driver under 25, you're going to have to agree that the under 25 driver(s) won't use the car.

It will have to be garaged. Just sayin,,,
