Ahh, the offset question rears its ugly head once again! Unless you order custom wheels, you will not get true "928 offsets." Randy is right about ride height and alignment having a greater effect than offset for the real world.

Relax about the offsets. If they are about 50 to 65mm, they will be fine.

Others will disagree!

By Randy:
Lower offset to accomodate bigger wheel/tire combinations.
Actually, the opposite it true. A larger offset will allow ‘bigger wheel/tire combinations.’

By Seth:
If the big three and tirerack are all selling replica (and other) wheels of a 52MM front offset, then there really CANT be a big deal at all, can there? If it IS a big deal, then why are the big 3 selling these wheels?
They are selling these wheels because they are the only non-OEM wheels available outside custom-spec 3-piece wheels. No manufacturer that I know of builds a 928 factory-spec wheel; please correct me if I’m wrong.

The 928 offsets are unique, and the car has not been in production for 8 years now. Likewise, demand for 928 wheels are comparatively non-existent compared to the Boxster or 911. So the question is, which rim company would be willing to do a production run on a no-volume ‘niche’ car with offsets that no other car in the world can use?

That is why 928 owners are offered Boxster and 911 rims as they are the only ones mass produced; and according to the 928 owners who bought them, most report that they fit and work well enough.

However, if one is concerned about maintaining the carefully crafted factory suspension geometry, then it’s time to consider the ‘correct’ offsets.

Additionally, if one wants to run the biggest and widest tire/rim combo possible without surgery, then it is imperative that offsets are considered, and money paid to the 3-piece wheel manufacturer who can build the custom spec wheel.

Lag:

You are right about nobody making 928 spec fitments--but it would appear that many, including tirerack, advertise that they do. I'm going to close my thoughts on this too often discussed subject by noting that I am going to in the near future publish a document that has every wheel I can find out there with offsets and fitment. Its silly that we have all been channeled into cup 1 and cup 2 wheels from replica providers like MM and steered away from 996 and boxster wheels when there is no discernible difference in these fitments for our cars.
