Default NorCal mechanic needed

I posted this on the 944 forum as well but thought I would post it here too. Anyone know of a reputable NorCal shop that will work on my son's 87 924S? I've done everything I can think of to fix a poor running/idle problem and I don't have the time or patience to continue trying to figure out why his car stopped running right. Obviously don't want to pay more than the thing is worth to get it fixed.

I've put the DME and air flow controller in another 924S and they seemed to work fine. I've checked fuel pressure, timing belt, plugs, wires, coil. I've checked for air leaks and tightened all the connections, removed the intake, checked the operation of the air control valve and it's not sticking. Replaced the O2 sensor. I can't figure it out and don't want to just throw parts at it hoping I guess right.

Right now I've got nothing else for him to drive to work and school but my '93 928 GTS. He's happy. I'm not.... If you see a 19 year old tooling around in a red GTS with a big smile on his face, it's probably my son.

I live in Fairfield. Appreciate any advice on a shop in the Bay Area or Sacramento!

You can contact Ron at IPB Motorsports in Sacramento. I stopped by there a while ago and chatted with him. He does know how to work on 928s, and had a few in the shop along with some 944s. I don't know about a 924 but he has been around a long time and seems to have a solid business.

the 924S is a pretty neat little car has all 944 running gear so a 944 experienced shop is what he needs...

The 924S has the same engine as a 944 so any 944 mechanic should be able to work on it. I am looking for a mechanic up there too because I am going to college up there soon and bringing my 928 with me .

Not much that keeps these things from idling properly.

Common to see the fuel pressure regulator or the damper with a bad diaphragm, leaking fuel directly into the intake system....same problem that people see on the 928 engines. Pull off the vacuum connectors and see if there is fuel inside the damper/regulator.

I had one a month or two ago that tried to fool me. Didn't leak fuel out of the hole until the car cooled down. Use a mirror and a flashlight to look inside. If necessary, remove them and give them the old "paint brush drying sling", with your wrist, to see if fuel comes out.

Thanks Greg,

I'll check the regulator and damper again. Last time I checked I saw no fuel leak and they both held vacuum.

Have you checked the wiring harness?

I checked that from inside the car at the DME. Couldn't find any problems but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Anything in particular you have in mind?
