Sunroof motor failure ?
Guys,
Sunroof motor now silent. It sounded like it was struggling prior to coma like state. I've kept things clean and lubricated, but it has had that gasping for air sound for at least a year. The console switch is in good functional shape - I've done the 'surgery' on it about three years ago. I've just dissected it again and inspected the contacts -> it should work. I have had some hit or miss function when I attempted to open/close the unit recently, but on my dissection/inspection of the innards of the switch it should not be the switch at fault. The connector along the passenger footwell cleaned this past Spring. What I can see of the unwrapped wires near this connector and switch show no signs of heat damage. Soldered connections at switch are good, and no localized contacts that would short. Fuse 14 intact. Both windows work fine. I haven't taken my DVM to things yet for I felt the circuitry fine after my first dive into the matter.
Is it new motor time ?
Anything I should do or consider before calling Roger ?

Let me try this.
If power to sunroof motor is from lead 87 of relay VI (the relay's Single Pole Single Throw component) through fuse 14, and the windows both function, has anyone heard of this component of relay VI failing ?
I still think the motor is done.

With ignition ON, I have battery voltage at Fuse 14's output to switch.
Tomorrow I'll check continuities of the circuit, and then see if I can get voltage directly to the motor. I would be very surprised if line(s) continuity were faulty.

Take the connector off the motor and test for voltage there when you click the switch. That will tell you if everything before the sunroof works.

Before I did the basics tomorrow, I was just wondering if the one-step-above-a-SPST relay VI had known issues to cause a motor to 'sleep', and if so how would one verify. As I have output to switch, verified by voltage at fuse 14 and functional windows, I know this relay functions. Now verification of a dead motor has no other variables to consider.

I would suggest that you,
try cleaning the switch contacts again,
then add some Deoxit to the contacts,
you should also spray the seat and window switches.
This should restore full function.

Thanks Stan. I had the 'complete' failure when it was already dark. I did some dissection/work, but it will wait till morning. The Deoxit will arrive on Tuesday via Amazon Prime. Is this stuff really that good ?

Yes I suggest to use the needle tip for the switches on the consople,
BUT if the working on the seat switches dont take them apart,
just spray some of the spray Deoxit into them they should start working again

My sunroof experience has been that the tracks can get wadded up with dust/dirt and all at once, the motor will labor to slide the roof panel along the track.
Clean the track and all mating surfaces (you can get to) as best you can with xylene or Goof-Off or even mineral spirits (whatever solvent you've got) apply fresh clean lube and see if it improves.

Matt, yes I've always periodically cleaned them clean with solvent and re-lubricate them just enough with a lithium based product. Now the motor won't even power up. It's electrical now, either centrally at the motor or peripherally in the circuitry.

I should have started the dissect up by the motor.
What I find is that the connector to the motor was askance. It was as if someone was trying to unsnap it and left it together, but not contacting. A simple snap in and the world was right again when activating from the skeleton of a switch. Odd, for I have not been up there for quite sometime. The motor cover has always been properly seated as well.

Thanks for your patience with me and my foibles. I will leave the innards of the switch accessible to apply the Deoxit which will be here shortly. It will be employed on all my electrical maintenance and preservation escapades which are many.
