a/c performance with low gas pressure

Many thanks for the explanation- still not sure I fully understand but clarifies a few points for me.

My system does not have the later switch fitted, indeed I know it is different but never thought to ask why.

If there is something random going wonky then I presume it is likely to be the head unit relay-correct?

Am I correct to understand there is a temp sensor on the auto box that drops the a/c if the ATF temp is too high? I must have imagined the coolant temp trip on the a/c-suspect I am confused with other cars of mine that do that.

What is the DEF mode?

You really should add the later switch.

This is certainly a high possibility - but if so you will see the freeze switch have no or a very low voltage on both connections when the head is trying to activate the clutch - fairly easy to test

You actually imagined both... the torque converter temp sensor feeds the fan/flap controller - it has no effect on the compressor.

the "DEF" demister/defogger mode of the head unit - right most position on lower slider

(Max heat, AC, Max fan, defog/defrost vents open, footwell flaps closed )
