Ott-Links return - rebirth of the original

Wow, Big Dave and Louie posting on the same day in the same thread, fantastic!
Miss the "old days" much.
Okay, back to talking about stiffness...

Stiffness change is the inverse of the square of the length change between the original bar length and the new bar length. i.e. if the new length is .8 of the original length then the stiffness ratio would be 1/(.8^2) or 1.56.
I'm more than a little dismayed that some people seem bent on making this way more complex than it is. The instructions are clear and unless someone goes way out in left field will work fine. Having the rear link longer than specified will probably cause interference with the bottom of the frame above the sway bar. If that happens, shorten the link length. One trouble possibility is that if you have offset wheels on the front so the inside of the rim is projecting more on the inside than normal, you may get interference between the rim and the nut of the mounting channel. This will interfere when you turn the wheel near the max. Sometimes you just have to think and use your head and improvise.
Dave Roberts has a very clean method of accomplishing similar results. If anything about these is too much to comprehend, I'd suggest using his system. It really does make a nice difference.
I have the instructions in .pdf file, and I'll try to attach to this message.

As always good to hear from you [ & DR].
My query has nothing to do with the relative merits/demerits of stiffening up the suspension or fitting the links given the simplicity of the instructions [which I lost my copy of in a hard drive crash some years ago].
I originally fitted your rear links because they seemed like an obvious logical solution to a "nuisance problem" that irked me first time the local and newly formed Porsche club organised an auto-cross type event some 16 years or so ago. With a stock set of rubber I found the car under steered chronically on the tight twisties of our little event. It seemed the front 225's were no match for the 245 rears and it seemed blatantly obvious that Porsche had sacrificed a touch of performance for a very safe understeer characteristic which in the hands of dentist's wives is quite understandable really. On the other hand as someone who for years drove a front engined rear wheel drive 3 litre Ford Capri mostly in the wet and sometimes on ice and snow, those things suffered chronic oversteer in anything but perfect weather so my limited skills were quite well tuned in such conditions. The rear links performed flawlessly doing exactly what you said they would and gave the stock car a more balanced feel that performance oriented drivers invariably prefer.
I quickly found the limits this mod gave and yearned for more and then upgraded the suspension and eventually went for the wider wheels and Devek bar, reinforced the front sway bar mounts and duly had fun running these mods. The only thing that surprised me a bit was that I found I needed to dial in the Devek bar full stiff to keep the rear end under control. All that was about 15 plus years ago. The local Porsche club folded some years ago and since then my 928 has been part used as a daily driver when I was working and since the oil price collapse has been little more than a play thing taken out two or three times a week for a bit of a run.
I have just started my annual inspection/maintenance activity and whilst looking at the rear links something flashed into my mind. Are the links equivalent to the stock set up plus a stiffer option or are both settings stiffer than stock one being more so than the other. If the latter, then stiffening up both the front and the rear would seem a bit pointless, perhaps more so with stiffer springs to start with. At the moment my rubber is not as wide as it used to be with 255 on the front and 285 on the rear, I have the Devek bar set somewhere mid range and it all seems to work just fine but this left me wondering whether I should leave well alone or remove the rear links and replace with the stock items. The rear links are still perfect and I do not sense any reason to remove them. For sure the car has very little roll but whether that is a good thing remains to be seen.
When it comes to setting the system up I understand the drop links on all four corners have to be set at the settled ride height to avoid pre-load and this process needs to be carried out if adjustments are made to ride height.

Hi Dave! You need to come hang out here a little more. Thanks for the correction on the front adjustability. I didn't remember the extra holes there.
And I do need to make it to a SITM. Over the years, I've been so darn close a few times but off by a week and once just a few days. Schedule is driven by client needs, it seems. I've forced a reduction in consulting hours over the last five years, and that may open the door to attending more 928 events.
Keep well, and best to Jeannie!

I remember getting the Louie Ott/928SP Sway bar "Steroid" Links back around 2001 or so, along with a full set of Bilsteins and springs. Man that car handled. I miss it too. It was one big rolling 928 Specialists billboard!!! LOL.

Ditto!!! I miss everything about the old days, except for my ex wife. LOL. Definitely miss you and your lovely wife Constantine, and I miss Dave and Jeannie something crazy.

Wow! Haven't been on very much in a while & it is indeed a treat to see Dave, Louie, & Constantine all posting on a thread together! Hope everyone is doing well. And a Drop Link/Sway Bar info thread at that! To stay on content, I do have Dave's front sway bar(the two hole version), Carl's lower frame brace, & Han's rear drop links. Happy with all of it. Please don't anyone tell me how much I've potentially screwed up the driveability of my 928 cause I don't know any better & it loves DEs & AXs.

Hi Tony! Doubt you'd remember, but I still appreciate you helping me replace an AC belt at SITM way back about '05, Thanks again for that.
There's a guy here on RL who makes em, any color you want, multiple finishes. He does wheel centers too. Prices are $150-$250. I've started to get several, but I've yet to do so. That that Red, White, & Blue one is my favorite. He has multiple links, Here's one: https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-ma...l-centers.html
Also has a link to a photo album showing his work: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/jtyu...?sort=6&page=1

I have begun to clean out my garage as I prepare to put my GTS up for sale and I discovered I have a "brand new" pair of these sitting in the box. I never did get around to installing them, These are brand new, never even taken out of the plastic/box. $250 + $10 shipping in continental US. PM me if interested.
