Question Window Trims

Like most other 928's I've seen, the black trims around the windows in my car have worn through to silver. I'm going to get them powder coated black again.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Thanks

CT,

Try this thread. No mention of powder coat though, only paint.

A good friend of mine had his 911 trim powercoated. It looks great and is very durable.
That's the route I'm taking when my trim comes due.

CT, Jaeger engineering seems to have these trim pieces for sale. If I recall correctly, they're priced at ~ 19 bucks. Hope this helps.

Tell the powder coater to use a semi-gloss black,15-25% I t will look like the anodized finish. Be careful taking them off, I ruined two of my pcs. that way.

Thanks guys,
I gave them to the powder coaters last night.
I was given the option of gloss or matt black. I went for matt.
I've just had a call to tell me they are ready.
Only problems was that they couldn't do the little clips. So I reckon to spray them matt black because they are onlt small.

CT, did you do side and rear window moldings? I have the same problem with fading so will be tackling soon. How difficult were the moldings to remove? Any special tools/tips?
Tks

The hatch moldings are easy. When you do the rear qtr. windows you must take the whole window and rubber off. You must also put it back the same way, thats the only way it works. Its very easy if you have a window rope and dish washing detergent.

Ajd,
I got all of the trims off with the careful use of a wide paint scraper and a screw driver. You have to be very gentle.
I haven't removed the rear quarter windows though.

Waldo, I didn' have to take my windows out. Are they not bonded in?

You can remove the rear quarter window trim without having to remove the glass.

I was able to re-install the trim into the old window seals but it is not recommended. According to the workshop manuals, to install the trim, you have to install the assembly as one unit..... Glass, rubber seal and trim.

Check the note above on using a rope and dish soap. It can be a real PITA.... You might think about buying new seals if you take them out.

HTH,
Scott

I've installed rear window trim with the glass in using "Mr. Bubbley' as a lubricate. That's the 50 cent bottle of kids bubble wand liquid, works great.
