Default Question about starting car

So I have posted about this a few times and I know a bit of what I need to do to fix the not turning over issue but I have a question.

If my car will not turn over with the key in the ignition will it start if I jump the starter from the 14-pin connector and the key is in the 'on' position? Assuming, of course, that the ignition is triggering everything that is needed to run.

to start the engine put the key in the run position,
transmission in neutral if a 5 speed , set E brake,

then touch the starter wire to power at the 14 pin connector ,

if the starter is good the engine will turn over and then start and run

It is an auto and I have done exactly that.

Re-aligned the distributor after making sure engine was at TDC.

Jumpered the fuel pump relay as it just clicks really fast when they key is on with relay in.

Cleaned grounds at the passenger cam cover.

Jumped the starter wire and the car turns over.

New green wire installed.

Car turns over just fine and makes a few popping sounds and spits what appears to be the rusted out guts of my muffler out the tailpipe and that is it. Even with starting fluid it does the same. Occasionally it sounds like it tries to kick over for a split second but nothing comes of it. With as bad as my gas tank was I am thinking stuck/sticky injectors. Haven't been able to have a helper assist to verify that injectors are firing yet though. I do have a video of this.

When you jumper the fuel pump relay - do you hear the pump running? do you know it generates good pressure?

Yup it is running and I know it, well at least the pump prior, generates good pressure. Had a clogged return line in my fuel level sender unit and it built up so much pressure the front face of the pump failed and burst open. Saw no leaks in my freshly rebuilt lines when that happened! Good thing I guess lol. I replaced the sender unit and the fuel pump, pump thanks to a member of this board in Lawton, OK (Soontobered I think). I should have a little over 5 gallons of fuel in the tank.

OK .... "Re-aligned the distributor after making sure engine was at TDC. .... " determined by what ?? the harmonic balancer marks ? because it can be installed backwards on the crank and the keyway is NOT lined up with TDC so flipping it moves all your marks....makes the ignition timing WAY OFF.. !! Happens with some regularity and proves Bailey's Law....if something can be installed backwards...some one will . More than one none running car became that after a t-belt job and it never would start again.

I checked the harmonic balancer marks and cam sprocket marks were aligned correctly. At least I think I got it right. I have not touched the timing belt on this car yet and it ran when parked so I would think it is correct.

As far as what I did is I rotated engine till the marks lined up and installed the distributor such as it points to the notch in the housing. Is there any way that I can verify this is correct? The distributor cap has the #1 at the notch if I remember correctly. Will verify this tonight.

Have you verified that your starter is fully operational? I was having a bunch of weird intermittent starting issues, and after checking a bunch of different things I eventually pulled the starter and brought it to a shop for testing and lo and behold, the starter needed to be rebuilt. It's pretty easy to take out, so it might be worth it to get it tested before throwing too much money/time on too many other theories. Usually shops will test them for free.

Here is the video of me trying to start the car. About halfway through you can hear it sound like it wants to kick over a little. I know I'm probably not jumping the starter the 'correct' way but I have looked and there are no other wires that I am hitting when using the jumper wire.

As you can see my starter is great.

Also a strange high pitched almost whistle sound can be heard. Not sure what that is. Maybe a connection I have loose?

After cranking, pull a plug and see if it's wet. That should tell you if your injectors are squirting. Any smell of gas out the tailpipe? It almost acts flooded--to which I'd say foot to the floor and crank for 30 seconds.

Thought of this as I was uploading the video. Not sure why I didn't pull a plug. Will have to do that. Not sure if I will have time or not tonight. May have to put the battery on the charger before I can check. Can't remember if I unhooked the battery so it may have fully drained by now.

Was thinking the same thing--sounded pretty low at the end of the video. You're in the home stretch!

I'm hoping so!!! But this is right where I was before replacing the green wire. It was doing the same thing. Was really hoping the green wire would magically make it run but alas, nope! hahaha

Trying to not let the car get under my skin and irk me. Thinking if it won't run after this week I will be sending in my injectors to have them cleaned at Deatschwerks. Will be pulling plugs and seeing if wet or not and checking for spark with a noid light if I can get a helper.
