Hello all, I wanted to post that I am a new member to rennlist and wanted to say hello! I look forward to asking a lot of questions and searching through this gold mine of information! A little about me: I'm 19 years old, live in New Mexico but will be moving to Phoenix in July. I am currently attending the University of New Mexico and am on my way to a paramedic License. Much more importantly, I recently hit a stroke of luck it seems and it was given a 928s! The previous owner had mechanic in the process of "restoring" the engine but the mechanic passed away half way through the rebuild. According to the previous owner who knows nothing about the technical aspects of engines, trans, etc informed me that it was a "restoration" but after doing some research for some time now I believe the previous owner was having a 100,000 mile tune up done. Replacing the timing belt and water pump too as those tend to go out from what I've read. Well anyway, I will hopefully have it towed to my house this weekend along with several large boxes of parts, that could possibly not even go with the Porsche because the late mechanic had many projects at the time and the owner of the 928 grabbed what she thought went to it. Also, I believe it may be a euro model. The owner said she went to Germany to pick up the car with 1000 miles on it. I don't know the year of it yet but it's probably before 1985. It's champaigne gold with gold rims, if I remember correctly she also said it came with a luggage set which leads me to believe it may be a Weissach?? But I will find out much much more over the weekend. The car was almost complete when the other mechanic unfortunately passed away. So hopefully I'll have the 928 up and running before I move in July!

C'mon guys, he says he won't have it at his house until the weekend. Wait until then to start screaming for pics. (7AM Sat would be more appropriate).
To the OP: Welcome and good luck. With a non-running, partially complete car that comes with "Boxes that the former owner grabbed from the mechanic" you are going to need the luck.
Fortunately, most of the parts are readily (if not cheaply) available through the "usual suspects."
If you post pics, everyone will tell you what it is (euro, Weissach, ect). Post the VIN, either here or in the "VIN Check" thread and you will find out for certain how it was originally equipped and where it was originally delivered. FWIW, if it's really a euro, it will have "ZZZ" near the front of the VIN.

Wow I can't believe how many responses I got back so quickly! Every other forum I've been on most response take days and days to get responses, thank you for the warm welcome all. I know I'll need all the luck in the world! But, the boxes that were grabbed by the Original owner I helped repack because the boxes were cheap and fell apart, so the parts that were Intended to be installed may not be so good either, but I did spot while transferring boxes, plenty of the intake pieces.Id say 80% of it to be certain from pictures I've seen of the engine... Complete ones of course. I've been creeping on several different forums for about two months since I found out the car was going to be given to me, and it seems split 50/50 in terms of people saying the 928 is either A) a PITA/money pit/ constantly siting more than driving, or B) the complete opposite/simple/cheap/amazing/worth the investment of parts and wrench time for the fun and value of the car. From What I've owned in the past (nothing in comparison to any of you fine folks I'm sure!) older cars have problems. My first car, a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO! had a lot of problems... (And a lot of HP/TQ for a taurus lol)and still does but with a little know how and a set of tools the car was cheap to work on, even with parts being ridiculously rare and me being dirt, dirt poor. Comes with being 15-19 years old lol. My biggest fear with this car is that I will have to tow it to Phoenix when I move. I've always wanted to a weekend car/ second car as a toy and it literally fell in my lap lol! Sorry the long posts too I may or may not be able to get pictures tomorrow. My goal is to get it to my house tomorrow afternoon so stayed tuned. Hopefully the tires aren't flat and towing will be quick and easy.
