How WIDE can you go?

How WIDE can you go?
I would like to know what is the largest rim/tire set up that fellow shark owners have ON there cars?
What are the offsets? (ie. front/rear)
What modifications they had to make to get them to fit? (ie. Roll the lip, Flares, Spacers)
Do they rub?.......and were? (ie.Front wheels go lock to lock)
How did it affect the handling/braking?
I ask these ?'s because I was recently t-boned and have lost the entire passenger side of my car...along with all four rims. LONG STORY SHORT..I will fix the car but would like to replace my rims with 18in and get 305's in the back and as big as I can get in the front w/o rubbing.
Thanks in advance for your feedback

Firstly, I'm very sorry to hear about your car...
Check my sig to see what I'm running, and they require no modifications whatsoever to the body. However, the front tires do rub the sway bar at full lock, but it's a non-issue to me since I'm rarely in that mode.
Originally for the rear I specified 11.0 x 65mm, but due to the reverse lip design of the wheel I chosen, HRE said that the structural integrity of the rim would be compromised, thus I had to compromise and went with 10.5 x 59mm instead. I'm very happy with the outcome.
Here's a link to a couple pictures on how they fit:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...t=supercharger
You *may* be able to squeeze a 305 in there, but it'll be really close; 305's are 3/4" wider than my 285's. The best case scenario would be to buy the rims, and go to a local tire shop and test-fit the tires.
Congratulations on the 505 rwhp! Let's see the dyno sheet!

Lagavulin,
Thanks for the pics...your car looks great! With all that HP and speed your going to need the gts mirrors. They are alot quieter and look great.
So with a 11in rim and a 65mm off-set how wide do you think I would be able to go?
How did you figure out what off-sets to ask for?
It sounds like you have as big of a tire up-front as one can fit? or is there room for more if the offset was different?

With stock front springs the widest I have been able to use is a 9.5" with a 7.5 inch back space but with small diameter springs you can use 8.5" of backspace. In the rear you can use a 11" with a 7.5" back space.

Hey Lagavulin, can you post pics of your car? I for one would like to see it.
BTW - I'm wondering of you're comfortable enough around here yet to begin using your first name? What is a Lagavulin?

"Lagavulin
Color: pale amber
Nose: more sherry.
Body: Full, smooth
Palate: the dryness is at first offset by the by the sweetness of the sherry character. As the palate develops. salty notes in particular emerge.
Finish: huge, powerful, peaty, salty

From the Omaha Dundee Dell Single Malt Scotch menu, as of a few years ago, when it was still cool. If you prefer, they had Macallan 52 year old for, ready, $300 a dram (bottle was 3-grand, a bargain!). Prices have undoubtably gone up since then.

It's hard not to notice you did not mention anything about your 505 rwhp dyno sheet. Tim and I have posted ours for all to see the 'paper trail'. When John dynos the Bastard and only 'verbally' reports the results, I will personally drive to Cinncy and kick his ***!
That is a pretty good idea as I would like to cut down the miscellaneous wind noise at cruise.
I’ve looked at my car, and to be honest, I really don’t think a bigger tire is going to fit without surgery.
Additionally, you really don’t want to roll your lip unless you do it very carefully or have it done professionally as I’ve seen quite a few where the paint is flaking after the ‘operation’.
If you really want 305’s, then as before, I recommend taking the new rims and car to a local ‘tire rack’ to mount and test fit them.
According to the tire size calculator, you’ll need to go with a 30 series or else your speedo will be off:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Lots of research!
First thing I did was to search eBay for rims and found a few Boxster rims I really liked, but didn’t know whether they would fit or not. I found myself asking, what’s an ‘offset’?
I searched the boards on ‘offset’, and Tom Faulkenberg’s post were particularly helpful as he provided detailed info regarding rim width, offset, tire sizes, and most importantly, how those combos actually fit.
I really like the way Mark Kibort’s car looks..
http://www.928trackcars.com/kibort/index-f.htm
..so I emailed him and he said that he runs 8” backspacing on all four corners without any body modifications.
Next I learned what an offset is and how to calculate it, then set up an Excel spreadsheet to ‘visualize’ the results for any combination of rim and offset, comparing those results against the stock S4’s setup.
In the spreadsheet, I highlighted everyone’s combo and inserted their comments as an Excel ‘comment’ for easy reference. Once I did this, it was fairly easy to spot a trend with the rims that fit. It basically boiled down to not allowing the rear rim to extend towards the quarter panel no more than one inch from the stock rim’s location.
As I mentioned before, my front tires rub the sway bar at full lock, and a greater offset will only exacerbate the 'problem'.
However, according to Mark Kibort and his 8” backspacing on all four corners, that comes out to be an 80mm offset; his page states he's running 275 x 40 x 17” on the front.
Mark Anderson’s ‘9.5" with a 7.5 inch back space’ comes out to be a 70mm offset.
I should point out that Mark’s ‘In the rear you can use a 11" with a 7.5" back space’ comes out to be a 52mm offset. Tom Faulkenberg reported that with this combo and 315’s, ‘did need to flare the fenders for that.’ Wow, that’s a big tire!
I’m sorry, but the only pics I have available for posting at the time are in the link above, and are on page 2. I can email you more if you’d like.

I agree, it is a little different...
These guys are correct, it is the name of my favorite Scotch!
If anyone reading appreciates a fine Scotch, then by all means try it. It is simply unlike anything you’ve ever had before. By comparison, Chivas Regal tastes like a Miller Lite which is not an exaggeration. Try it and you will see (..and let me know what you think).

Of the one’s I’ve tried, my rankings are Lagavulin, Talisker, Cragganmore, Oban, and finally Dahlwhinnie. As I like my coffee and beers, dark and rich, so too my Scotch.

Don't overlook the effect of different tires on the rims. And ride height. That's why ome combinations work for some and not for others. A good write-up can be found at:
http://www.landsharkoz.com/tt/ttwheels.htm
It is fairly conservative in the evaluations.of combinations. Also, check the email archives as many set-ups have gone across that over the years. The widest I recall was a gent running 335's all around.
You can call one of The Three and they'll set you up.
L-man: Makin' me thirsty.
