Default Am I missing something in my gearbox? How about the lever return spring!

When I compare the internals of my gearbox with the picture in the WSM Volume 2 repairgroep 34_19 it appears that either I am missing some parts (# 2, 3, 4, 5 in the picture) or I have a different gearbox. The dreaded finger spring that may break and make a mess of the gears appears to be absent in my gearbox. Can anyone explain if I am missing something or that it's supposed to be like this in my gearbox.

Early transmission.....pre updated spring (928 303 284 15), which was added in 1982 to provide a slight amount of preload, so that the driver could tell if they were in 4th and 5th position or 2nd and 3rd position.

Makes the transmission a '78 to '81.

The lack of the safety lockout on the top cover should further identify it as a G28/03, from a '78 or '79.

All normal, although you may want to update it, while it is apart. The addition of the 928 303 284 15 spring makes them much easier to drive, without thinking about what gear you are heading for.

Thank you for your clarificarion. The gearbox is not taken apart, just took the cover off for inspection to see if there was any damage or broken fingerspring as I have read about. All looks good (and the shifting was good too, even to/from 2nd gear) so I closed it again. At least now I know someone before me (also known as PO) didn't simply took out the parts, as has been the case with other parts.
