How long? Not sure from start to finish (of one car), but by the end of '78 they were sending 15 out the door every day. As production moved ahead into '79 and beyond, they had capacity for more.

78 RoW owner's, please look for a sticker under your glove box.
I've found it on two RoW's now, and it appears to be record of a production number.
If you find this, could you let me know what number it reads and your 928's VIN?
Thanks!

Thank you very much, Igor.
This certainly changed my data, which is great! The more of these we have, the more accurate the info will be.
Thanks Harvey. The Prod# 644 sticker above is from your #579.

Thanks Alex! Another good datapoint that moved the numbers slightly toward more accurate.
Still have a ways to go.
With enough info, I may be able to tell on what day your '78 was built. That may be a bit lofty, but certainly within a few days (with margin of error).

I quess you have much larger collection of build dates, engine and gearbox numbers etc than what has been discussed in here over the years? Can you make some kind of list what you have so far? I can try to get more info from local '78's, both ROW and US models.
What data to collect. I think at least these.
VIN, engine number, gearbox number, engine block pairing number, glove box sticker, seat timestamp, feature info (tacho, door inside button shape, door lock style, fuel filler style, hatch lock cylinder shape, no rear hatch guide rubber etc)

My collection is not that elaborate. For this exercise, I'm using VIN and production# to plot and triangulate production rates per month.
This info will never be 100% accurate because I don't know when the factory took Holiday or worked overtime, and getting info on when Japan cars were produced would be next to impossible.
Also, unless I find 'bookend' VINs for every month (lowest and highest VIN per build-month), we can only get so close.
But the data is still interesting to me and I've learned alot from it already.
FWIW, the best triangulation data so far has be the production# glove box sticker. And so far, those numbers are working out.

Thank you, Ad. My '78 #2384 has a sticker with red marker just like that.
That's a tough one to fit into the spreadsheet. Would mean that approx 842 US were produced before approx 1100 RoW.

Hi Jim
VIN end 573
Sticker... Well it just has a number on it
08951
Or
15680
(depending on which way up you look )
Edit: looking at above the 1 is not a European written 1 (that looks like a droopy 7) so I suspect its 0895
