Default Looking for 1978 build dates

Could you give me your '78 build dates and VINs from your door jamb stickers?

Doesn't need to be a pic, just the date and the last 4 digits of your VIN.

Here's an example:

Also, if you have a '78 RoW and know your build date along with your VIN, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

If I post a pic of #1, will you give me a '78 build date?

^^^^ You bet, Ron!

Yea, I'm trying to triangulate production data to give people more accurate build dates. Still too many holes in the data.

FWIW, it's looking like yours is one of the last built in Aug 77.

The hardest part is figuring out what happened from May thru July 77. No build date/VIN stickers on those RoW's.

Jim, How far in advance were build dates on the next years model ? Did Porsche start building 79's in late 78 and then through summer of 79 ? T

^^^ August to August, T

MY78 was different. Went from May 77 to Aug 78.

Not looking for MY79 VINs at this time, or '79s with a '78 build date.

^^^^ Thanks Ed!

Actually, yours @ #0834 and Erik's @ #0941 are very nice bookends for May 78.

Hoping to find this kind of info for other months. Have some, just not enough.

Porsche's production volume was not linear, so this is the only way I know of to get us in the ballpark.

Jim:

Here is a pic of #174. I saw it a couple of years ago responding to an ad - the car was in very sad shape and I did not buy it. I took this pic (and a few others at the time). I can't read any build date on it though, which doesn't help. In fact, it doesn't look like there was a build date marked.

Hey Jim,

mine is 9288100533. No Id about construction date but Marc Noack from Porsche was able to tell me it was delivered in Holland october '77. Must have been build prior to that :-))
Btw. Maybe Marc Noack can help you out?

Jim, I'm hoping to get ROW #622 back in my garage by next week I'll send what I can on it, but if I remember correct the stickers were unreadable.

Thanks Igor,
Based on my current data, RoW #0533 would've been built in September.
Excellent datapoint, I'll take it! Esp because the RoW are the hardest to get build data for.

Marc has been helpful for some things, but he is a busy person. This is my friendly way of saying it's hard to get answers from him.
Once I have everything together the best I can, I will ask him some very specific questions that will hopefully fill in the 'holes' in my data.

Matt, thanks for checking in! Best place to get a date off the RoW cars is the date stamp under the seat.
The seat date gets me closer, figuring the seats are near the last thing to get installed, and Recaro (seat mfg.) was right next door.

Here's the seat bottom from RoW #0579, with an Oct build date:

I also have the seat date from RoW #0289, June 25th 1977

So everyone with RoW '78s, check under your seat!
