good ?? the early 87's came with the wing.....by mid 87 they stopped doing it....I think the theory was easy of loading, but the wing goes up with the hatch, so that is stupid anyway.

The seats look like the ones I have in my 81 . Bolt right in / lower height / lighter and nice to sit in

The wing flips up because it is ADJUSTABLE for angle of attack. The rest position of the wing can easily be changed to affect the amount of downforce. I have no actual data, but it must exist somewhere.
The flip up feature really has nothing to do with washing the car more easily.

I have never heard/seen one locking into any position other then all the way up or down. So how is the rest position easily changed?

I also only have seen it full up (90') from ground or the normal position...it is spring loaded and only really likes one position or the other...unless the 2 I have seen were different

I have never seen the flip up wing like you are talking about. It flips up to give ease of access to the wiper assembly and washing. Locks in the down position and that's it.

Could you post us some pictures of the adjustability please? I need to learn something today.

My wing self adjusts under boost and heavy braking. I'm pretty sure this is a factory option but it could also be a side effect of years of service as a dinner table when the wife is having a moment.

tbh I find it is a little awkward to locate the lock cylinder on my fixed wing S4. A flip up would make it easier to find the lock without hunting with a sharp key in the dark. What I do now is hold my middle finger over the key tip and slide until I find the hole. (twss)

Yeah, just don't tell her that or that "self adjusting wing" option will cost you more than the factory would of charged!

I don't get the logic... if you flip the wing up in the dark - its still dark...right?

I grew up with Lucas electrics. "Dark" is a relative term
