Default Are the chips in the 88 EZ typically soldered?

Installing a set of PorKen chips.
Open up the EZ and the original chip is soldered in place. Is this typical for the 88? I thought it was just a push fit.

Thanks

It is a push fit part, it fits on top of the soldered part. Tricky to get off, with a small screwdriver.

Got it - thanks - didn't want to pry if soldered!

Cheers

Not that chip!

It's under that cover above the chip in the photo above!

The cover is held in place on the sides of the EPROM.
Use a small flat blade screwdriver in the slots provided on top of the cover release the tabs.

Well my eyesight isn't as good as it was, but I am sure the legs are soldered. I tried to gently pry from side to side, but I have just succeeded in straightening the legs. I've also attached a pic of the back

Be careful when inserting the new chip, its easy to bend a leg and not realize it.

Whew.. I had the same "not that chip" thought as I read the OP a minute ago..

It made scrolling down really suspenseful!

Glad to see the EZ-K survived
